Holman Christian Standard Bible | New Living Translation |
The LORD spoke to Moses: " | 1Then the LORD said to Moses, |
You are to set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month. | 2“Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year. |
Put the ark of the testimony there and screen off the ark with the veil. | 3Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place. |
Then bring in the table and lay out its arrangement; also bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. | 4Then bring in the table, and arrange the utensils on it. And bring in the lampstand, and set up the lamps. |
Place the gold altar for incense in front of the ark of the testimony. Put up the screen for the entrance to the tabernacle. | 5“Place the gold incense altar in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Then hang the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle. |
Position the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting. | 6Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the Tabernacle entrance. |
Place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. | 7Set the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water. |
Assemble the surrounding courtyard and hang the screen for the gate of the courtyard." | 8Then set up the courtyard around the outside of the tent, and hang the curtain for the courtyard entrance. |
Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it along with all its furnishings so that it will be holy. | 9“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy. |
Anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar so that it will be especially holy. | 10Anoint the altar of burnt offering and its utensils to consecrate them. Then the altar will become absolutely holy. |
Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate it." | 11Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them. |
Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water. | 12“Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water. |
Clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he can serve Me as a priest. | 13Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest. |
Have his sons come forward and clothe them in tunics. | 14Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics. |
Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve Me as priests. Their anointing will serve to inaugurate a permanent priesthood for them throughout their generations." | 15Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.” |
Moses did everything just as the LORD had commanded him. | 16Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him. |
The tabernacle was set up in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month. | 17So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year. |
Moses set up the tabernacle: he laid its bases, positioned its planks, inserted its crossbars, and set up its posts. | 18Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts. |
Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 19Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
Moses took the testimony and placed it in the ark, and attached the poles to the ark. He set the mercy seat on top of the ark. | 20He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed them inside the Ark. Then he attached the carrying poles to the Ark, and he set the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—on top of it. |
He brought the ark into the tabernacle, put up the veil for the screen, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him. | 21Then he brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle and hung the inner curtain to shield it from view, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil. | 22Next Moses placed the table in the Tabernacle, along the north side of the Holy Place, just outside the inner curtain. |
He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him. | 23And he arranged the Bread of the Presence on the table before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
He also put the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle | 24He set the lampstand in the Tabernacle across from the table on the south side of the Holy Place. |
and set up the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him. | 25Then he lit the lamps in the LORD’s presence, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
Moses also installed the gold altar in the tent of meeting, in front of the veil, | 26He also placed the gold incense altar in the Tabernacle, in the Holy Place in front of the inner curtain. |
and burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him. | 27On it he burned the fragrant incense, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
He put up the screen at the entrance to the tabernacle. | 28He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle, |
Then he placed the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered the burnt offering and the grain offering on it, just as the LORD had commanded him. | 29and he placed the altar of burnt offering near the Tabernacle entrance. On it he offered a burnt offering and a grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him. |
He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing. | 30Next Moses placed the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves. |
Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet from it. | 31Moses and Aaron and Aaron’s sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet. |
They washed whenever they came to the tent of meeting and approached the altar, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. | 32Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses. |
Next Moses set up the surrounding courtyard for the tabernacle and the altar and hung a screen for the gate of the courtyard. So Moses finished the work. | 33Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. The LORD’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle |
The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. | 34Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle. |
Moses was unable to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud rested on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. | 35Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle. |
The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey. | 36Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it. |
If the cloud was not taken up, they did not set out until the day it was taken up. | 37But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted. |
For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and there was a fire inside the cloud by night, visible to the entire house of Israel throughout all the stages of their journey. | 38The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys. |
