English Standard Version | King James Bible |
Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! | 1A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips. |
From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! | 2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. |
You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. | 3Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. |
With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. | 4Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. |
My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. | 5Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. |
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. | 6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. |
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. | 7Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. |
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, | 8Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, |
from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. | 9From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. |
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. | 10They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. |
They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. | 11They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; |
He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. | 12Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. |
Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, | 13Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: |
from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. | 14From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. |
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. | 15As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. |
