Now concerning spiritual gifts: brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware.1With regard to spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
You know that when you were pagans, you used to be enticed and led astray by mute idols.2You know that when you were pagans you were often led astray by speechless idols, however you were led.
Therefore I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.3So I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit.4Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are different ministries, but the same Lord.5And there are different ministries, but the same Lord.
And there are different activities, but the same God produces each gift in each person.6And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good:7To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all.
to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit,8For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit,9to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of tongues, to another, interpretation of tongues.10to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.
One and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as he wills.11It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.
For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body--so also is Christ.12For just as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body--though many--are one body, so too is Christ.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and we were all given one Spirit to drink.13For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.
Indeed, the body is not one part but many.14For in fact the body is not a single member, but many.
If the foot should say, "Because I'm not a hand, I don't belong to the body," it is not for that reason any less a part of the body.15If the foot says, "Since I am not a hand, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
And if the ear should say, "Because I'm not an eye, I don't belong to the body," it is not for that reason any less a part of the body.16And if the ear says, "Since I am not an eye, I am not part of the body," it does not lose its membership in the body because of that.
If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?17If the whole body were an eye, what part would do the hearing? If the whole were an ear, what part would exercise the sense of smell?
But as it is, God has arranged each one of the parts in the body just as he wanted.18But as a matter of fact, God has placed each of the members in the body just as he decided.
And if they were all the same part, where would the body be?19If they were all the same member, where would the body be?
As it is, there are many parts, but one body.20So now there are many members, but one body.
The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" Or again, the head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you!"21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I do not need you," nor in turn can the head say to the foot, "I do not need you."
On the contrary, those parts of the body that are weaker are indispensable.22On the contrary, those members that seem to be weaker are essential,
And those parts of the body that we consider less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unrespectable parts are treated with greater respect,23and those members we consider less honorable we clothe with greater honor, and our unpresentable members are clothed with dignity,
which our respectable parts do not need. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable,24but our presentable members do not need this. Instead, God has blended together the body, giving greater honor to the lesser member,
so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other.25so that there may be no division in the body, but the members may have mutual concern for one another.
So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.26If one member suffers, everyone suffers with it. If a member is honored, all rejoice with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it.27Now you are Christ's body, and each of you is a member of it.
And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, various kinds of tongues.28And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do miracles?29Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?
Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in other tongues? Do all interpret?30Not all have gifts of healing, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all interpret, do they?
But desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way.31But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison.
