And the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.21And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife because she was childless. So she went to inquire of the LORD.22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? 23The LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger."23And the LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.”23The LORD said to her, "Two nations are in your womb; And two peoples will be separated from your body; And one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve the younger."23And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.23And the LORD said to her: Two nations are in your womb; two people will come from you and be separated. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.
24When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.24When her days to give birth were completed, behold, there were twins in her womb.24When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.24And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.24When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb.
25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.25The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau.25Now the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment; and they named him Esau.25And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.25The first one came out red-looking, covered with hair like a fur coat, and they named him Esau.
26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.26Afterward his brother came out with his hand holding Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.26Afterward his brother came forth with his hand holding on to Esau's heel, so his name was called Jacob; and Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them.26And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.26After this, his brother came out grasping Esau's heel with his hand. So he was named Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when they were born.
27The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents.27And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau became an expert hunter, an outdoorsman, but Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.

Esau Sells his Birthright

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.29Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted.29When Jacob had cooked stew, Esau came in from the field and he was famished;29And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:29Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted.
30He said to Jacob, "Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!" (That is why he was also called Edom.)30And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.)30and Esau said to Jacob, "Please let me have a swallow of that red stuff there, for I am famished." Therefore his name was called Edom.30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.30He said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red stuff, because I'm exhausted." That is why he was also named Edom.
31Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."31Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.”31But Jacob said, "First sell me your birthright."31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.31Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright.""
32"Look, I am about to die," Esau said. "What good is the birthright to me?"32Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?”32Esau said, "Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?"32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?32Look," said Esau, "I'm about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?"
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
33But Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.33Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.33And Jacob said, "First swear to me"; so he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.33Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him.
34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave bread and lentil stew to Esau; he ate, drank, got up, and went away. So Esau despised his birthright.
