Joshua 3
Crossing the Jordan
Crossing Into Destiny: The Miracle at the Jordan River

Joshua 3 illustrates the transformative power of faith and obedience, as we see the Israelites cross the Jordan under God's divine guidance. It teaches us that, as with the Israelites, our faith in God and obedience to His commandments can enable us to experience miracles in our own lives. The challenges we face may seem as insurmountable as the Jordan, but with God, all things are possible.

Preparing for the Miracle (Verses 1-6)

Joshua and the Israelites break camp, journeying to the Jordan, ready to cross into Canaan. Joshua instructs the people to follow the Ark of the Covenant, carried by the priests, as it will lead their way. In preparation for God's miracles, they are commanded to consecrate themselves.

God's Promise to Joshua and the Israelites (Verses 7-13)

God assures Joshua that He will begin to exalt him in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that He is with Joshua as He was with Moses. Joshua relays God's promise to the Israelites, assuring them that the living God is among them and will dispossess the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites. As a sign, he informs them that the Ark of the Covenant will cross the Jordan ahead of them.

The Miracle at the Jordan River (Verses 14-17)

As the priests step into the Jordan with the Ark, the waters stop flowing from upstream, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground. The priests carrying the Ark stand firm in the middle of the Jordan until the entire nation has crossed over.
