Yahweh’s Vineyard
(John 15:1–8)

1  בַּיּ֣וֹם (Day) הַה֡וּא (In that) יִפְקֹ֣ד (will visit) יְהוָה֩ (YHWH) בְּחַרְב֨וֹ (with His sword) הַקָּשָׁ֜ה (severe) וְהַגְּדוֹלָ֣ה (and great) וְהַֽחֲזָקָ֗ה (and mighty) עַ֤ל (upon) לִוְיָתָן֙ (Leviathan) נָחָ֣שׁ (the serpent) בָּרִ֔חַ (fleeing) וְעַל֙ (and upon) לִוְיָתָ֔ן (Leviathan) נָחָ֖שׁ (the serpent) עֲקַלָּת֑וֹן (coiling), וְהָרַ֥ג (and He will kill) אֶת־ (-) הַתַּנִּ֖ין (the dragon) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that is) בַּיָּֽם׃ס (in the sea). 2  בַּיּ֖וֹם (Day) הַה֑וּא (In that):

כֶּ֥רֶם (A vineyard) חֶ֖מֶד (of delight) עַנּוּ־ (sing) לָֽהּ׃ (of her).

3  אֲנִ֤י (I), יְהוָה֙ (YHWH), נֹֽצְרָ֔הּ (am watching over her);

לִרְגָעִ֖ים (every moment) אַשְׁקֶ֑נָּה (I water her),

פֶּ֚ן (lest) יִפְקֹ֣ד (one should visit) עָלֶ֔יהָ (upon her)

לַ֥יְלָה (night) וָי֖וֹם (and day) אֶצֳּרֶֽנָּה׃ (I watch over her).

4  חֵמָ֖ה (Anger) אֵ֣ין (is not) לִ֑י (in Me).

מִֽי־ (Who) יִתְּנֵ֜נִי (would set against Me) שָׁמִ֥יר (a thorn)— שַׁ֙יִת֙ (a thornbush)

בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה (in the battle)? אֶפְשְׂעָ֥ה (I will march) בָ֖הּ (against her);

אֲצִיתֶ֥נָּה (I will burn her) יָּֽחַד׃ (alltogether).

5  א֚וֹ (Or) יַחֲזֵ֣ק (if he should take hold) בְּמָעוּזִּ֔י (of My strength),

יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה (he will make) שָׁל֖וֹם (peace) לִ֑י (with Me)—

שָׁל֖וֹם (peace) יַֽעֲשֶׂה־ (he will make) לִּֽי׃ (with Me).

6  הַבָּאִים֙ (Those coming in) יַשְׁרֵ֣שׁ (he causes to take root) יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב (of Jacob).

יָצִ֥יץ (Will blossom) וּפָרַ֖ח (and bud) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel),

וּמָלְא֥וּ (and they will fill) פְנֵי־ (the face) תֵבֵ֖ל (of the world) תְּנוּבָֽה׃ס (with fruit). 7  הַכְּמַכַּ֥ת (As the striking)

מַכֵּ֖הוּ (of one striking him) הִכָּ֑הוּ (has He has struck him)?

אִם־ (As if) כְּהֶ֥רֶג (according to the slaughter) הֲרֻגָ֖יו (of his slain) הֹרָֽג׃ (was he slayed)?

8  בְּסַּאסְּאָ֖ה (In driving her off), בְּשַׁלְחָ֣הּ (in sending her out), תְּרִיבֶ֑נָּה (You have contended with her).

הָגָ֛ה (He removed it) בְּרוּח֥וֹ (wind) הַקָּשָׁ֖ה (by His harsh)

בְּי֥וֹם (as on the day) קָדִֽים׃ (of the east wind).

9  לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) בְּזֹאת֙ (by this) יְכֻפַּ֣ר (will be wiped away) עֲוֺֽן־ (the iniquity) יַעֲקֹ֔ב (of Jacob),

וְזֶ֕ה (and by this) כָּל־ (is all) פְּרִ֖י (the fruit) הָסִ֣ר (to take away) חַטָּאת֑וֹ (his sin).

בְּשׂוּמ֣וֹ׀ (In His setting) כָּל־ (all) אַבְנֵ֣י (the stones) מִזְבֵּ֗חַ (of the altar),

כְּאַבְנֵי־ (as stones) גִר֙ (of chalk) מְנֻפָּצ֔וֹת (crushed to pieces),

לֹֽא־ (not) יָקֻ֥מוּ (they will rise)

אֲשֵׁרִ֖ים (the Asherah poles) וְחַמָּנִֽים׃ (and incense altars).

10  כִּ֣י (For) עִ֤יר (the city) בְּצוּרָה֙ (fortified) בָּדָ֔ד (is alone),

נָוֶ֕ה (a habitation) מְשֻׁלָּ֥ח (deserted) וְנֶעֱזָ֖ב (and forsaken) כַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר (like the wilderness).

שָׁ֣ם (There) יִרְעֶ֥ה (will graze), עֵ֛גֶל (the calf)

וְשָׁ֥ם (and there) יִרְבָּ֖ץ (he will lie down), וְכִלָּ֥ה (and consume) סְעִפֶֽיהָ׃ (her branches).

11  בִּיבֹ֤שׁ (With the withering) קְצִירָהּ֙ (of her boughs),

תִּשָּׁבַ֔רְנָה (they are broken off).

נָשִׁ֕ים (The women) בָּא֖וֹת (come) מְאִיר֣וֹת (make fires) אוֹתָ֑הּ (with it),

כִּ֣י (for) לֹ֤א (not) עַם־ (a people) בִּינוֹת֙ (of understanding) ה֔וּא (it is). עַל־ (For)

כֵּן֙ (thus) לֹֽא־ (not) יְרַחֲמֶ֣נּוּ (will have compassion on them) עֹשֵׂ֔הוּ (He who made them),

וְיֹצְר֖וֹ (and He who formed them) לֹ֥א (not) יְחֻנֶּֽנּוּ׃ס (will show them favor).

12  וְהָיָה֙ (And it will come to pass) בַּיּ֣וֹם (day) הַה֔וּא (in that), יַחְבֹּ֧ט (will beat out the grain) יְהוָ֛ה (that YHWH) מִשִּׁבֹּ֥לֶת (from the stream) הַנָּהָ֖ר (of the River) עַד־ (to) נַ֣חַל (the Wadi) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt), וְאַתֶּ֧ם (and you⁺) תְּלֻקְּט֛וּ (will be gathered) לְאַחַ֥ד (one) אֶחָ֖ד (by one), בְּנֵ֥י (O sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס (of Israel). 13  וְהָיָ֣ה׀ (And it will come to pass) בַּיּ֣וֹם (day) הַה֗וּא (in that), יִתָּקַע֮ (will be blown) בְּשׁוֹפָ֣ר (a shofar) גָּדוֹל֒ (great), וּבָ֗אוּ (and will come) הָאֹֽבְדִים֙ (those lost) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) אַשּׁ֔וּר (of Assyria), וְהַנִּדָּחִ֖ים (and those driven away) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt). וְהִשְׁתַּחֲו֧וּ (And they will worship) לַיהוָ֛ה (YHWH) בְּהַ֥ר (on the mountain) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (of holiness)— בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ (in Jerusalem).
