Praise to the Victorious God
(Jeremiah 51:15–19)

1  יְהוָ֤ה (O YHWH), אֱלֹהַי֙ (my God) אַתָּ֔ה (You are);

אֲרֽוֹמִמְךָ֙ (I will exalt You),

אוֹדֶ֣ה (I will praise) שִׁמְךָ֔ (Your name).

כִּ֥י (For) עָשִׂ֖יתָ (You have done) פֶּ֑לֶא (a wonderful thing);

עֵצ֥וֹת (Your counsels) מֵֽרָח֖וֹק (of old)

אֱמ֥וּנָה (in steadfast) אֹֽמֶן׃ (faithfulness).

2  כִּ֣י (For) שַׂ֤מְתָּ (You have made) מֵעִיר֙ (of a city) לַגָּ֔ל (a heap),

קִרְיָ֥ה (a city) בְצוּרָ֖ה (fortified) לְמַפֵּלָ֑ה (a ruin),

אַרְמ֤וֹן (a fortress) זָרִים֙ (of strangers) מֵעִ֔יר (from a city);

לְעוֹלָ֖ם (forever) לֹ֥א (not) יִבָּנֶֽה׃ (it will be rebuilt).

3  עַל־ (Upon) כֵּ֖ן (thus) יְכַבְּד֣וּךָ (will honor You) עַם־ (people) עָ֑ז (a strong);

קִרְיַ֛ת (a city) גּוֹיִ֥ם (nations) עָרִיצִ֖ים (of ruthless) יִירָאֽוּךָ׃ (will fear you).

4  כִּֽי־ (For) הָיִ֨יתָ (You have been) מָע֥וֹז (a stronghold) לַדָּ֛ל (for the poor),

מָע֥וֹז (a stronghold) לָאֶבְי֖וֹן (for the needy one) בַּצַּר־ (in distress) ל֑וֹ (for him),

מַחְסֶ֤ה (a refuge) מִזֶּ֙רֶם֙ (from the storm),

צֵ֣ל (a shade) מֵחֹ֔רֶב (from the heat),

כִּ֛י (for) ר֥וּחַ (the breath) עָרִיצִ֖ים (of the ruthless ones)

כְּזֶ֥רֶם (is like a storm)— קִֽיר׃ (against a wall).

5  כְּחֹ֣רֶב (Like heat) בְּצָי֔וֹן (in a dry land),

שְׁא֥וֹן (the roar) זָרִ֖ים (of strangers) תַּכְנִ֑יעַ (You humble);

חֹ֚רֶב (the heat) בְּצֵ֣ל (in the shadow) עָ֔ב (of a cloud),

זְמִ֥יר (the song) עָֽרִיצִ֖ים (of the ruthless ones) יַעֲנֶֽה׃פ (will be brought low).

6  וְעָשָׂה֩ (And will make) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֜וֹת (Hosts) לְכָל־ (for all) הָֽעַמִּים֙ (the peoples) בָּהָ֣ר (on the mountain) הַזֶּ֔ה (this)

מִשְׁתֵּ֥ה (a feast) שְׁמָנִ֖ים (of fat things),

מִשְׁתֵּ֣ה (a feast) שְׁמָרִ֑ים (of aged wines),

שְׁמָנִים֙ (fat things) מְמֻ֣חָיִ֔ם (full of marrow),

שְׁמָרִ֖ים (aged wines) מְזֻקָּקִֽים׃ (well-refined).

7  וּבִלַּע֙ (And He will swallow up) בָּהָ֣ר (on the mountain) הַזֶּ֔ה (this)

פְּנֵֽי־ (the face) הַלּ֥וֹט׀ (of the covering) הַלּ֖וֹט (wrapping) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) הָֽעַמִּ֑ים (the peoples)

וְהַמַּסֵּכָ֥ה (and the veil) הַנְּסוּכָ֖ה (woven) עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ (the nations).

8  בִּלַּ֤ע (He will swallow up) הַמָּ֙וֶת֙ (death) לָנֶ֔צַח (forever),

וּמָחָ֨ה (and will wipe away) אֲדֹנָ֧י (the Lord) יְהוִ֛ה (YHWH) דִּמְעָ֖ה (the tear) מֵעַ֣ל (from) כָּל־ (all) פָּנִ֑ים (faces);

וְחֶרְפַּ֣ת (and the scorn) עַמּ֗וֹ (of His people) יָסִיר֙ (He will turn away)

מֵעַ֣ל (from) כָּל־ (all) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the earth),

כִּ֥י (for) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) דִּבֵּֽר׃פ (has spoken).

9  וְאָמַר֙ (And one will say) בַּיּ֣וֹם (day) הַה֔וּא (on that), הִנֵּ֨ה (Behold), אֱלֹהֵ֥ינוּ (our God) זֶ֛ה (this is);

קִוִּ֥ינוּ (we have waited) ל֖וֹ (for Him) וְיֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נוּ (and He has saved us).

זֶ֤ה (This is) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH); קִוִּ֣ינוּ (we have waited) ל֔וֹ (for Him);

נָגִ֥ילָה (let us rejoice) וְנִשְׂמְחָ֖ה (and be glad) בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ (in His salvation).

10  כִּֽי־ (For) תָנ֥וּחַ (will rest) יַד־ (the hand)

יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) בָּהָ֣ר (on the mountain) הַזֶּ֑ה (this),

וְנָ֤דוֹשׁ (and will be trampled down) מוֹאָב֙ (Moab) תַּחְתָּ֔יו (under Him)

כְּהִדּ֥וּשׁ (as is trampled down) מַתְבֵּ֖ן (straw) בְּמֵי (in the waters) מַדְמֵנָֽה׃ (of dung).

11  וּפֵרַ֤שׂ (And He will spread out) יָדָיו֙ (His hands) בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ (within it)

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) יְפָרֵ֥שׂ (spreads out) הַשֹּׂחֶ֖ה (the swimmer) לִשְׂח֑וֹת (to swim),

וְהִשְׁפִּיל֙ (and He will bring low) גַּֽאֲוָת֔וֹ (its pride)

עִ֖ם (with) אָרְבּ֥וֹת (the skill) יָדָֽיו׃ (of his hands).

12  וּמִבְצַ֞ר (And the fortress) מִשְׂגַּ֣ב (of the high place) חוֹמֹתֶ֗יךָ (of your walls) הֵשַׁ֥ח (He will bend down)—

הִשְׁפִּ֛יל (He will bring it low), הִגִּ֥יעַ (touching it down) לָאָ֖רֶץ (to the ground), עַד־ (into) עָפָֽר׃ס (dust).
