Offering Firstfruits and Tithes
(Leviticus 27:30–34; Deuteronomy 14:22–29; Nehemiah 13:10–14)

1  וְהָיָה֙ (And it shall come to pass), כִּֽי־ (when) תָב֣וֹא (you come) אֶל־ (into) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) נֹתֵ֥ן (is giving) לְךָ֖ (to you) נַחֲלָ֑ה (as an inheritance), וִֽירִשְׁתָּ֖הּ (and you possess it) וְיָשַׁ֥בְתָּ (and dwell) בָּֽהּ׃ (in it), 2  וְלָקַחְתָּ֞ (that you shall take) מֵרֵאשִׁ֣ית׀ (some of the first) כָּל־ (of all) פְּרִ֣י (the produce) הָאֲדָמָ֗ה (of the ground), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) תָּבִ֧יא (you shall bring) מֵֽאַרְצְךָ֛ (from your land) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יְהוָ֧ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ (your God) נֹתֵ֥ן (is giving) לָ֖ךְ (you), וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ (and you shall put it) בַטֶּ֑נֶא (in the basket), וְהָֽלַכְתָּ֙ (and go) אֶל־ (to) הַמָּק֔וֹם (the place) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (where) יִבְחַר֙ (chooses) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) לְשַׁכֵּ֥ן (to dwell) שְׁמ֖וֹ (for His Name) שָֽׁם׃ (there). 3  וּבָאתָ֙ (And you shall go) אֶל־ (to) הַכֹּהֵ֔ן (the priest) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) יִהְיֶ֖ה (is) בַּיָּמִ֣ים (in the days) הָהֵ֑ם (those) וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (and say) אֵלָ֗יו (to him), הִגַּ֤דְתִּי (I declare) הַיּוֹם֙ (today) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) כִּי־ (that) בָ֙אתִי֙ (I have come) אֶל־ (to) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) נִשְׁבַּ֧ע (swore) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) לַאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ (to our fathers) לָ֥תֶת (to give) לָֽנוּ׃ (to us).

4  וְלָקַ֧ח (And shall take) הַכֹּהֵ֛ן (the priest) הַטֶּ֖נֶא (the basket) מִיָּדֶ֑ךָ (from your hand), וְהִ֨נִּיח֔וֹ (and set it down) לִפְנֵ֕י (before the face of) מִזְבַּ֖ח (the altar) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God). 5  וְעָנִ֨יתָ (And you shall answer) וְאָמַרְתָּ֜ (and say) לִפְנֵ֣י׀ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ (your God), אֲרַמִּי֙ (A Aramaean) אֹבֵ֣ד (perishing) אָבִ֔י (my father was), וַיֵּ֣רֶד (and he went down) מִצְרַ֔יְמָה (to Egypt), וַיָּ֥גָר (and dwelt) שָׁ֖ם (there) בִּמְתֵ֣י (with men) מְעָ֑ט (few in number), וַֽיְהִי־ (and he became) שָׁ֕ם (there) לְג֥וֹי (a nation) גָּד֖וֹל (great), עָצ֥וּם (mighty), וָרָֽב׃ (and numerous). 6  וַיָּרֵ֧עוּ (And mistreated) אֹתָ֛נוּ (us) הַמִּצְרִ֖ים (the Egyptians) וַיְעַנּ֑וּנוּ (and afflicted us) וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ (and laid) עָלֵ֖ינוּ (on us) עֲבֹדָ֥ה (labor) קָשָֽׁה׃ (hard). 7  וַנִּצְעַ֕ק (And we cried out) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) אֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ (of our fathers), וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע (and heard) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) קֹלֵ֔נוּ (our voice) וַיַּ֧רְא (and looked on) אֶת־ (-) עָנְיֵ֛נוּ (our affliction) וְאֶת־ (and) עֲמָלֵ֖נוּ (our toil) וְאֶת־ (and) לַחֲצֵֽנוּ׃ (our oppression). 8  וַיּוֹצִאֵ֤נוּ (And brought us) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם (out of Egypt) בְּיָ֤ד (with a hand) חֲזָקָה֙ (mighty), וּבִזְרֹ֣עַ (and with an arm) נְטוּיָ֔ה (outstretched), וּבְמֹרָ֖א (and with terror) גָּדֹ֑ל (great), וּבְאֹת֖וֹת (and with signs) וּבְמֹפְתִֽים׃ (and wonders). 9  וַיְבִאֵ֖נוּ (And He has brought us) אֶל־ (to) הַמָּק֣וֹם (the place) הַזֶּ֑ה (this) וַיִּתֶּן־ (and has given) לָ֙נוּ֙ (to us) אֶת־ (-) הָאָ֣רֶץ (the land) הַזֹּ֔את (this), אֶ֛רֶץ (a land) זָבַ֥ת (flowing) חָלָ֖ב (with milk) וּדְבָֽשׁ׃ (and honey). 10  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And now), הִנֵּ֤ה (behold), הֵבֵ֙אתִי֙ (I have brought) אֶת־ (-) רֵאשִׁית֙ (the first) פְּרִ֣י (of the fruit) הָאֲדָמָ֔ה (of the land), אֲשֶׁר־ (which) נָתַ֥תָּה (You have given) לִּ֖י (to me), יְהוָ֑ה (O YHWH).

וְהִנַּחְתּ֗וֹ (And you shall set it) לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God) וְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֔יתָ (and bow down) לִפְנֵ֖י (before the face of) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God); 11  וְשָׂמַחְתָּ֣ (and you shall rejoice) בְכָל־ (in every) הַטּ֗וֹב (good thing) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) נָֽתַן־ (has given) לְךָ֛ (to you) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God), וּלְבֵיתֶ֑ךָ (and to your house)— אַתָּה֙ (you), וְהַלֵּוִ֔י (and the Levite), וְהַגֵּ֖ר (and the sojourner) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who is) בְּקִרְבֶּֽךָ׃ס (among you).

12  כִּ֣י (When) תְכַלֶּ֞ה (you have finished laying aside) לַ֠עְשֵׂר (to tithe) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) מַעְשַׂ֧ר (the tithe) תְּבוּאָתְךָ֛ (of your increase) בַּשָּׁנָ֥ה (in the year) הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֖ת (third), שְׁנַ֣ת (the year) הַֽמַּעֲשֵׂ֑ר (of tithing), וְנָתַתָּ֣ה (and have given it) לַלֵּוִ֗י (to the Levite), לַגֵּר֙ (to the sojourner), לַיָּת֣וֹם (to the fatherless), וְלָֽאַלְמָנָ֔ה (and to the widow), וְאָכְל֥וּ (so that they may eat) בִשְׁעָרֶ֖יךָ (within your gates) וְשָׂבֵֽעוּ׃ (and be satisfied), 13  וְאָמַרְתָּ֡ (then you shall say) לִפְנֵי֩ (before the face) יְהוָ֨ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ (your God), בִּעַ֧רְתִּי (I have removed) הַקֹּ֣דֶשׁ (the sacred portion) מִן־ (from) הַבַּ֗יִת (the house), וְגַ֨ם (and also) נְתַתִּ֤יו (have given it) לַלֵּוִי֙ (to the Levite), וְלַגֵּר֙ (and to the sojourner), לַיָּת֣וֹם (the to fatherless), וְלָאַלְמָנָ֔ה (and to the widow), כְּכָל־ (according to all) מִצְוָתְךָ֖ (Your commandments) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) צִוִּיתָ֑נִי (You have commanded me). לֹֽא־ (Not) עָבַ֥רְתִּי (I have transgressed) מִמִּצְוֺתֶ֖יךָ (Your commandments), וְלֹ֥א (and not) שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃ (have I forgotten). 14  לֹא־ (Not) אָכַ֨לְתִּי (I have eaten) בְאֹנִ֜י (in my affliction) מִמֶּ֗נּוּ (any of it), וְלֹא־ (and not) בִעַ֤רְתִּי (have I removed) מִמֶּ֙נּוּ֙ (of it) בְּטָמֵ֔א (for uncleanness), וְלֹא־ (and not) נָתַ֥תִּי (have I given) מִמֶּ֖נּוּ (of it) לְמֵ֑ת (for the dead). שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי (I have obeyed) בְּקוֹל֙ (the voice) יְהוָ֣ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֔י (my God), עָשִׂ֕יתִי (and I have done) כְּכֹ֖ל (according to all) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) צִוִּיתָֽנִי׃ (You have commanded me). 15  הַשְׁקִיפָה֩ (Look down) מִמְּע֨וֹן (from habitation) קָדְשְׁךָ֜ (Your holy), מִן־ (from) הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם (the heavens), וּבָרֵ֤ךְ (and bless) אֶֽת־ (-) עַמְּךָ֙ (Your people) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel) וְאֵת֙ (and) הָאֲדָמָ֔ה (the land) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָתַ֖תָּה (You have given) לָ֑נוּ (to us), כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) נִשְׁבַּ֙עְתָּ֙ (You swore) לַאֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ (to our fathers), אֶ֛רֶץ (a land) זָבַ֥ת (flowing) חָלָ֖ב (with milk) וּדְבָֽשׁ׃ס (and honey).

Obey Yahweh’s Commands

16  הַיּ֣וֹם (The day) הַזֶּ֗ה (this), יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ (your God) מְצַוְּךָ֧ (commands you) לַעֲשׂ֛וֹת (to observe) אֶת־ (-) הַחֻקִּ֥ים (the statutes) הָאֵ֖לֶּה (these) וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֑ים (the ordinances). וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֤ (And you shall keep) וְעָשִׂ֙יתָ֙ (and do) אוֹתָ֔ם (them) בְּכָל־ (with all) לְבָבְךָ֖ (your heart) וּבְכָל־ (and with all) נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ (your soul).

17  אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) הֶאֱמַ֖רְתָּ (you have proclaimed) הַיּ֑וֹם (today) לִהְיוֹת֩ (to be) לְךָ֨ (your) לֵֽאלֹהִ֜ים (God), וְלָלֶ֣כֶת (that you will walk) בִּדְרָכָ֗יו (in His ways) וְלִשְׁמֹ֨ר (and to keep) חֻקָּ֧יו (His statutes) וּמִצְוֺתָ֛יו (and His commands) וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֖יו (and His judgments), וְלִשְׁמֹ֥עַ (and to listen) בְּקֹלֽוֹ׃ (to His voice).

18  וַֽיהוָ֞ה (And YHWH) הֶאֱמִֽירְךָ֣ (has proclaimed you) הַיּ֗וֹם (today) לִהְי֥וֹת (to be) לוֹ֙ (His) לְעַ֣ם (people), סְגֻלָּ֔ה (a treasured possession), כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר (as) דִּבֶּר־ (He promised) לָ֑ךְ (to you), וְלִשְׁמֹ֖ר (and that you should keep) כָּל־ (all) מִצְוֺתָֽיו׃ (His commandments), 19  וּֽלְתִתְּךָ֣ (that He will set you) עֶלְי֗וֹן (high) עַ֤ל (above) כָּל־ (all) הַגּוֹיִם֙ (nations) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) עָשָׂ֔ה (He has made), לִתְהִלָּ֖ה (in praise) וּלְשֵׁ֣ם (and in name) וּלְתִפְאָ֑רֶת (and in honor), וְלִֽהְיֹתְךָ֧ (and that you may be) עַם־ (a people) קָדֹ֛שׁ (holy) לַיהוָ֥ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) דִּבֵּֽר׃ס (He has spoken).
