The Greatest Commandment

(Matthew 22:34-40; Mark 12:28-34)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,1“Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the LORD your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it,1"Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it,1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:1This is the command--the statutes and ordinances--the LORD your God has instructed me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess.
2so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.2that you may fear the LORD your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.2so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.2That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.2Do this so that you may fear the LORD your God all the days of your life by keeping all His statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life.
3Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.3Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.3"O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.3Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey."
4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.4“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.4"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:4Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is One.

10When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you--a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build,10“And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build,10"Then it shall come about when the LORD your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,10And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,10When the LORD your God brings you into the land He swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that He would give you--a land with large and beautiful cities that you did not build,
11houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied,11and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full,11and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied,11And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;11houses full of every good thing that you did not fill them with, wells dug that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant--and when you eat and are satisfied,
12be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.12then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.12then watch yourself, that you do not forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.12Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.12be careful not to forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.
13Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.13It is the LORD your God you shall fear. 14Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;14You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you—14"You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you,14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;14Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you,

15for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.15for the LORD your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the LORD your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.15for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth.15(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.15for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God. Otherwise, the LORD your God will become angry with you and wipe you off the face of the earth.
16Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah.16“You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.16"You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah.16Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.16Do not test the LORD your God as you tested Him at Massah.
17Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you.17You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.17"You should diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which He has commanded you.17Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.17Carefully observe the commands of the LORD your God, the decrees and statutes He has commanded you.
18Do what is right and good in the LORD's sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors,18And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers18"You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to give your fathers,18And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,18Do what is right and good in the LORD's sight, so that you may prosper and so that you may enter and possess the good land the LORD your God swore to give your fathers,
19thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said.19by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has promised.19by driving out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has spoken.19To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.19by driving out all your enemies before you, as the LORD has said."

Teach Your Children

(Ephesians 6:1-4)

20In the future, when your son asks you, "What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?"20“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the LORD our God has commanded you?’20"When your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the LORD our God commanded you?'20And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?20When your son asks you in the future, 'What is the meaning of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances, which the LORD our God has commanded you?'
21tell him: "We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.21then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. And the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.21then you shall say to your son, 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand.21Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:21tell him, 'We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand.
22Before our eyes the LORD sent signs and wonders--great and terrible--on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.22And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes.22'Moreover, the LORD showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household;22And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:22Before our eyes the LORD inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household,
23But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors.23And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.23He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.'23And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.23but He brought us from there in order to lead us in and give us the land that He swore to our fathers.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
24The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.24And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.24"So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today.24And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.24The LORD commanded us to follow all these statutes and to fear the LORD our God for our prosperity always and for our preservation, as it is today.
25And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness."25And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.’25"It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the LORD our God, just as He commanded us.25And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.25Righteousness will be ours if we are careful to follow every one of these commands before the LORD our God, as He has commanded us.'"
