The splitting of the Mount of Olives will provide a divinely made route of escape for those in Jerusalem. As the Lord once opened the Red Sea for Israel, He will alter the land itself to preserve His people from destruction. The valley will stand as a visible testimony that the Creator rules over the earth and acts decisively for those who belong to Him.

You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.

The earthquake in Uzziah’s reign was remembered for generations and is dated by Amos 1:1. Zechariah’s hearers understood the terror and urgency associated with that disaster. Then the LORD my God will come,
