Filled with the Holy Spirit, he explained that the events they had witnessed fulfilled Joel’s prophecy and testified that the crucified Jesus had been raised and exalted as Lord and Christ. The crowd had been confronted with its guilt in rejecting the Messiah, yet Peter offered mercy rather than despair. John the Baptist and Jesus had likewise called Israel to repent because God’s kingdom had drawn near. Act 3:19 Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped… and be baptized, Baptism was the appointed public response of those who believed Peter’s message.
