1 We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves; We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
2 let each of us please our neighbor for the good, for building up. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.
3 For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you fall upon me.” For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”
4 For whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that by endurance and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,
6 that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7 Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
8 For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed
9 but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: “Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name.” and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.” and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing the praises of your name.”
10 And again it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” And again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” Again, it says, “Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.”
11 And again: “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him.” And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him.” And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the peoples extol him.”
12 And again Isaiah says: “The root of Jesse shall come, raised up to rule the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope.” And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.” And again, Isaiah says, “The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
14 I myself am convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and able to admonish one another. 18 For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to lead the Gentiles to obedience by word and deed, For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience—by word and deed, I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done—
19 by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit [of God], so that from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum I have finished preaching the gospel of Christ. by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God—so that from Jerusalem and all the way around to Illyricum I have fulfilled the ministry of the gospel of Christ; by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
20 Thus I aspire to proclaim the gospel not where Christ has already been named, so that I do not build on another’s foundation, and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.
21 but as it is written: “Those who have never been told of him shall see, and those who have never heard of him shall understand.” but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.” Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”
22 That is why I have so often been prevented from coming to you. This is the reason why I have so often been hindered from coming to you. This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.
23 But now, since I no longer have any opportunity in these regions and since I have desired to come to you for many years, But now, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you, But now that there is no more place for me to work in these regions, and since I have been longing for many years to visit you,
24 I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain and to be sent on my way there by you, after I have enjoyed being with you for a time. I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be helped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a while. I plan to do so when I go to Spain. I hope to see you while passing through and to have you assist me on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while.
25 Now, however, I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the holy ones. At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints. Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the Lord’s people there.
26 For Macedonia and Achaia have decided to make some contribution for the poor among the holy ones in Jerusalem; For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem.
27 they decided to do it, and in fact they are indebted to them, for if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to serve them in material blessings. For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. 28 So when I have completed this and safely handed over this contribution to them, I shall set out by way of you to Spain; When therefore I have completed this and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will leave for Spain by way of you. So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain and visit you on the way.
29 and I know that in coming to you I shall come in the fullness of Christ’s blessing. I know that when I come to you I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ. I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.
30 I urge you, [brothers,] by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in the struggle by your prayers to God on my behalf, I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf, I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.
31 that I may be delivered from the disobedient in Judea, and that my ministry for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the holy ones, that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord’s people there,
32 so that I may come to you with joy by the will of God and be refreshed together with you. so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company. so that I may come to you with joy, by God’s will, and in your company be refreshed.
33 The God of peace be with all of you. Amen. May the God of peace be with you all. Amen. The God of peace be with you all. Amen.
