1 For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.
2 In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.
3 I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
4 You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.
5 I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;
6 At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
7 “Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? “Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?
8 Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
10 So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
11 I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
13 Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God?
14 You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples. You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
15 With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
16 The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken. When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.
17 The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth.
18 Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
19 Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found. Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.
20 You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
