1 For the one directing. Of the servant of YHWH, David, who spoke to YHWH the words of this song on the day that YHWH snatched him from the hand of all his enemies, from the hand of Saul. And he said: I love You, O YHWH, my strength. I love you, O LORD, my strength. For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength.
2 YHWH is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock—I take refuge in Him—my protection, and the horn of my salvation, my high place. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I will call upon YHWH, to be praised, and I shall be saved from my enemies. I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.
4 The cords of Death surrounded me, and the torrents of Belial terrified me. The cords of death encompassed me; the torrents of destruction assailed me; The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5 The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of Death confronted me. the cords of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.
6 In the distress unto me, I called to YHWH, and to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help came before His face into His ears. In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. 7 And the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the hills trembled; and they were shaken because of the burning from Him. Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations also of the mountains trembled and quaked, because he was angry. The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.
8 Smoke went up from His nostril, and a devouring fire from His mouth; coals were kindled from it. Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him. Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.
9 And He stretched apart the heavens and came down, and a dark cloud was under His feet. He bowed the heavens and came down; thick darkness was under his feet. He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.
10 And He rode upon a cherub and flew, and He took flight upon the wings of the wind. He rode on a cherub and flew; he came swiftly on the wings of the wind. He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness His covering, His canopy around Him—darkness of waters and thick clouds of vapors. He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him, thick clouds dark with water. He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him— the dark rain clouds of the sky.
12 From the brightness before Him His thick clouds passed on, hail and coals of fire. Out of the brightness before him hailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds. Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.
13 And YHWH thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave forth His voice—hail and coals of fire. The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, hailstones and coals of fire. The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.
14 And He sent out His arrows and scattered them, and He hurled lightning and routed them. And he sent out his arrows and scattered them; he flashed forth lightnings and routed them. He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them.
15 And the channels of the sea were seen. And the foundations of the world were uncovered, from Your rebuke, O YHWH, from the blast of the breath of Your nostril. Then the channels of the sea were seen, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
16 He sent from above, he took hold of me; He drew me out from the many waters. He sent from on high, he took me; he drew me out of many waters. He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
17 He snatched me away from my strong enemy, and from those hating me, for they were stronger than I. He rescued me from my strong enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, and YHWH was as a support for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.
19 And He brought me out into a broad place; He pulled me out, because He took delight in me. He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
20 YHWH rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands, He returned it to me. The LORD dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me. The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
21 For I have kept the ways of YHWH, and I have not acted wickedly against my God. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God.
22 For all His ordinances are before me, and I did not turn aside His statutes from me. For all his rules were before me, and his statutes I did not put away from me. All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.
23 And I was blameless before Him, and I guarded myself from my iniquity. I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt. I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.
24 And YHWH has returned to me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands before His eyes. So the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.
25 With the faithful one, You show Yourself faithful; with a blameless man, You show Yourself blameless; With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless; To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
26 with the purified one, You show Yourself pure; and with the crooked one, You show Yourself shrewd. with the purified you show yourself pure; and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous. to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.
27 For You will save a lowly people, but the eyes of those rising high You bring low. For you save a humble people, but the haughty eyes you bring down. You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.
28 For You light my lamp; YHWH my God makes my darkness shine bright. For it is you who light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness. You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
29 For with You I can run against a troop, and with my God I can leap a wall. For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.
30 God—His way is perfect—the word of YHWH is refined; He is a shield for all those taking refuge in Him. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
31 For who is God, apart from YHWH? And who is the Rock, except our God?— For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?— For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?
32 The God girding me with strength, and making perfect my way. the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.
33 Setting my feet like does, even on the heights He makes me stand. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.
34 He trains my hands for the battle, and my arms can bend down a bow of bronze. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
35 And You gave to me the shield of Your salvation; and Your right hand supports me, and Your gentleness makes me great. You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.
36 You made wide my path under me, and my ankles have not slipped. You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; and I did not turn back until they were consumed. I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed. I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
38 I wounded them, and they were not able to rise; they have fallen under my feet. I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise; they fell under my feet. I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.
39 And You girded me with strength for the battle; those rising against me You bent down underneath me. For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me. You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.
40 And my enemies, You have given to me the neck; and those hating me, I cut them off! You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and those who hated me I destroyed. You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.
41 They cried for help, and no one saved them, upon YHWH, and He did not answer them. They cried for help, but there was none to save; they cried to the LORD, but he did not answer them. They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the LORD, but he did not answer.
42 And I beat them as dust upon the face of the wind; like mud in the streets I trampled them. I beat them fine as dust before the wind; I cast them out like the mire of the streets. I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets.
43 You rescued me from the disputes of people; You set me as the head of nations; a people I have not known shall serve me. You delivered me from strife with the people; you made me the head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me. You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,
44 At the hearing of the ear, they listen to me; the sons of a foreigner feign obedience before me. As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me. foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
45 The sons of a foreigner fade away, and they come trembling from their strongholds. Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their fortresses. They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.
46 YHWH lives! And blessed be my Rock, and the God of my salvation be exalted— The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation— The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!
47 the God giving vengeance to me, and subduing the peoples under me, the God who gave me vengeance and subdued peoples under me, He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,
48 causing me to escape from my enemies, even above, those who rise against me—You lift me up. From the man of violence, You have snatched me. who rescued me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me; you delivered me from the man of violence. who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.
49 Upon thus, I will confess You among the nations, O YHWH, and to Your name I will sing praise. For this I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, and sing to your name. Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.
50 He is making great the salvation of His king and showing loving devotion to His anointed, of David and to his seed, even to forever. Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever. He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.
