1 So then, as Christians, do you have any encouragement? Do you have any comfort from love? Do you have any spiritual relationships? Do you have any sympathy and compassion? So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,
2 Then fill me with joy by having the same attitude and the same love, living in harmony, and keeping one purpose in mind. complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
3 Don't act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,
4 Don't be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 Instead, he emptied himself by taking on the form of a servant, by becoming like other humans, by having a human appearance. but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
8 He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, death on a cross. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
9 This is why God has given him an exceptional honor- the name honored above all other names- Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will kneel so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 My dear friends, you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I'm absent. In the same way continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
13 It is God who produces in you the desires and actions that please him. for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
14 Do everything without complaining or arguing. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, Do everything without grumbling or arguing,
15 Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky
16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. Then I can brag on the day of Christ that my effort was not wasted and that my work produced results. holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
17 My life is being poured out as a part of the sacrifice and service [I offer to God] for your faith. Yet, I am filled with joy, and I share that joy with all of you. Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
18 For this same reason you also should be filled with joy and share that joy with me. Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
19 I hope that the Lord Jesus will allow me to send Timothy to you soon so that I can receive some encouraging news about you. I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.
20 I don't have anyone else like Timothy. He takes a genuine interest in your welfare. For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.
21 Everyone else looks after his own interests, not after those of Jesus Christ. For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
22 But you know what kind of person Timothy proved to be. Like a father and son we worked hard together to spread the Good News. But you know Timothy’s proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.
23 I hope to send him as soon as I see how things are going to turn out for me. I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me, I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.
24 But the Lord gives me confidence that I will come [to visit you] soon. and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also. And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
25 I feel that I must send Epaphroditus-my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier-back to you. You sent him as your personal representative to help me in my need. I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.
26 He has been longing to see all of you and is troubled because you heard that he was sick. for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.
27 Indeed, he was so sick that he almost died. But God had mercy not only on him but also on me and kept me from having one sorrow on top of another. Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
28 So I'm especially eager to send him to you. In this way you will have the joy of seeing him again and I will feel relieved. I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.
29 Give him a joyful Christian welcome. Make sure you honor people like Epaphroditus highly. So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men, So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him,
30 He risked his life and almost died for the work of Christ in order to make up for the help you couldn't give me. for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me. because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.
