3 Then some of the experts in the law said to themselves, |This man is blaspheming!| And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 When Jesus saw their reaction he said, |Why do you respond with evil in your hearts? But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
5 Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven' or to say, 'Stand up and walk'? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins|--then he said to the paralytic--|Stand up, take your stretcher, and go home.| But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic— “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
7 And he stood up and went home. And he rose and went home. Then the man got up and went home.
8 When the crowd saw this, they were afraid and honored God who had given such authority to men. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men. 13 Go and learn what this saying means: 'I want mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.| Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
14 Then John's disciples came to Jesus and asked, |Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?| Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus said to them, |The wedding guests cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast. And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, because the patch will pull away from the garment and the tear will be worse. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.
17 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the skins burst and the wine is spilled out and the skins are destroyed. Instead they put new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved.| Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
18 As he was saying these things, a ruler came, bowed low before him, and said, |My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and she will live.| While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”

20 But a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 For she kept saying to herself, |If only I touch his cloak, I will be healed.| for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 But when Jesus turned and saw her he said, |Have courage, daughter! Your faith has made you well.| And the woman was healed from that hour. Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 When Jesus entered the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the disorderly crowd, And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,

25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and gently took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 34 But the Pharisees said, |By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.| But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
35 Then Jesus went throughout all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and sickness.
