1 AND entering into a boat, he passed over the water and came into his own city. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.
2 And behold they brought to him one sick of the palsy lying in a bed. And Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the man sick of the palsy: Be of good heart, son, thy sins are forgiven thee. And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 And behold some of the scribes said within themselves: He blasphemeth. And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 And Jesus seeing their thoughts, said: Why do you think evil in your hearts? But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
5 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee: or to say, Arise, and walk? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
6 But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then said he to the man sick of palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic— “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
7 And he arose, and went into his house. And he rose and went home. Then the man got up and went home.
8 And the multitude seeing it, feared, and glorified God that gave such power to men. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
9 And when Jesus passed on from hence, he saw a man sitting in the custom house, named Matthew; and he saith to him: Follow me. And he rose up and followed him. As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 And it came to pass as he was sitting at meat in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came, and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.
11 And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples: Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners? And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 But Jesus hearing it, said: They that are in health need not a physician, but they that are ill. But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
13 Go then and learn what this meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I am not come to call the just, but sinners. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
14 Then came to him the disciples of John, saying: Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but thy disciples do not fast? Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 And Jesus said to them: Can the children of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast. And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 And nobody putteth a piece of raw cloth unto an old garment. For it taketh away the fullness thereof from the garment, and there is made a greater rent. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.
17 Neither do they put new wine into old bottles. Otherwise the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish. But new wine they put into new bottles: and both are preserved. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
18 As he was speaking these things unto them, behold a certain ruler came up, and adored him, saying: Lord, my daughter is even now dead; but come, lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”
19 And Jesus rising up followed him, with his disciples. And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
20 And behold a woman who was troubled with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21 For she said within herself: If I shall touch only his garment, I shall be healed. for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 But Jesus turning and seeing her, said: Be of good heart, daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 And when Jesus was come into the house of the ruler, and saw the minstrels and the multitude making a rout, And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,
24 He said: Give place, for the girl is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
25 And when the multitude was put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand. And the maid arose. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.
26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that country. And the report of this went through all that district. News of this spread through all that region.
27 And as Jesus passed from thence, there followed him two blind men crying out and saying, Have mercy on us, O Son of David. And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
28 And when he was come to the house, the blind men came to him. And Jesus saith to them, Do you believe, that I can do this unto you? They say to him, Yea, Lord. When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.
29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it done unto you. Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you|;
30 And their eyes were opened, and Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know this. And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
31 But they going out, spread his fame abroad in all that country. But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
32 And when they were gone out, behold they brought him a dumb man, possessed with a devil. As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus.
33 And after the devil was cast out, the dumb man spoke, and the multitudes wondered, saying, Never was the like seen in Israel. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, By the prince of devils he casteth out devils. But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
35 And Jesus went about all the cities, and towns, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease, and every infirmity. And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 And seeing the multitudes, he had compassion on them: because they were distressed, and lying like sheep that have no shepherd. 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth labourers into his harvest. therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
