1 So he got into a boat, crossed over, and came to his own town. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.
2 Just then some men brought to him a paralytic lying on a stretcher. Seeing their faith, Jesus told the paralytic, “Have courage, son, your sins are forgiven.” And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 At this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “He’s blaspheming! ” And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 Perceiving their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why are you thinking evil things in your hearts? But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
5 For which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” —then he told the paralytic, “Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.” But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic— “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
7 So he got up and went home. And he rose and went home. Then the man got up and went home.
8 When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and gave glory to God, who had given such authority to men. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man.
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him. As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While he was reclining at the table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came to eat with Jesus and his disciples. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners? ” And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 Now when he heard this, he said, “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick. But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
13 Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
14 Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast? ” Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests be sad while the groom is with them? The time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 No one patches an old garment with unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment and makes the tear worse. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.
17 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.” Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
18 As he was telling them these things, suddenly one of the leaders came and knelt down before him, saying, “My daughter just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”
19 So Jesus and his disciples got up and followed him. And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
20 Just then, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years approached from behind and touched the end of his robe, And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21 for she said to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I’ll be made well.” for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Have courage, daughter,” he said. “Your faith has saved you.” And the woman was made well from that moment. Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 When Jesus came to the leader’s house, he saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly. And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,
24 “Leave,” he said, “because the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they laughed at him. he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.

30 And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus warned them sternly, “Be sure that no one finds out.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.”
31 But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that whole area. But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.
32 Just as they were going out, a demon-possessed man who was unable to speak was brought to him. As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus.
33 When the demon had been driven out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were amazed, saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel! ” And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, “He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons.” But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
35 Jesus continued going around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness. And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
