1 Judge not, that ye may not be judged; “Judge not, that you be not judged. “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
2 for with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 But why lookest thou on the mote that is in the eye of thy brother, but observest not the beam that is in thine eye? Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Allow [me], I will cast out the mote from thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou wilt see clearly to cast out the mote out of the eye of thy brother. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
6 Give not that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the swine, lest they trample them with their feet, and turning round rend you. “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
7 Ask, and it shall be given to you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you who, if his son shall ask of him a loaf of bread, will give him a stone; Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
10 and if he ask a fish, will give him a serpent? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
11 If therefore ye, being wicked, know [how] to give good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to them that ask of him? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
12 Therefore all things whatever ye desire that men should do to you, thus do ye also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets. “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
13 Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it. “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
14 For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
15 But beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but within are ravening wolves. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather a bunch of grapes from thorns, or from thistles figs? You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 So every good tree produces good fruits, but the worthless tree produces bad fruits. So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruits, nor a worthless tree produce good fruits. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19 Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 By their fruits then surely ye shall know them. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21 Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that does the will of my Father who is in the heavens. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many shall say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied through thy name, and through thy name cast out demons, and through thy name done many works of power? On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’
23 and then will I avow unto them, I never knew you. Depart from me, workers of lawlessness. And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
24 Whoever therefore hears these my words and does them, I will liken him to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 And every one who hears these my words and does not do them, he shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell, and its fall was great. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine, And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
29 for he taught them as having authority, and not as their scribes. for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
