1	And it came to pass on [the] second-first sabbath, that he went through cornfields, and his disciples were plucking the ears and eating [them], rubbing [them] in their hands.	On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands.	One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands and eat the kernels.
2	But some of the Pharisees said to them, Why do ye what is not lawful to do on the sabbath?	But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?”	Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”
3	And Jesus answering said to them, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did when he hungered, he and those who were with him,	And Jesus answered them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:	Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
4	how he entered into the house of God and took the shewbread and ate, and gave to those also who were with him, which it is not lawful that [any] eat, unless the priests alone?	how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?”	He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.”
5	And he said to them, The Son of man is Lord of the sabbath also.	And he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”	Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
6	And it came to pass on another sabbath also that he entered into the synagogue and taught; and there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.	On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered.	On another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled.
7	And the scribes and the Pharisees were watching if he would heal on the sabbath, that they might find something of which to accuse him.	And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him.	The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.
8	But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, Get up, and stand in the midst. And having risen up he stood [there].	But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there.	But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.
9	Jesus therefore said to them, I will ask you if it is lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy [it]?	And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?”	Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
10	And having looked around on them all, he said to him, Stretch out thy hand. And he did [so] and his hand was restored as the other.	And after looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored.	He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored.
11	But they were filled with madness, and they spoke together among themselves what they should do to Jesus.	But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.	But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
12	And it came to pass in those days that he went out into the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.	In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.	One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
13	And when it was day he called his disciples, and having chosen out twelve from them, whom also he named apostles:	And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles:	When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:
14	Simon, to whom also he gave the name of Peter, and Andrew his brother, [and] James and John, [and] Philip and Bartholomew,	Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,	Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,

17	and having descended with them, he stood on a level place, and a crowd of his disciples, and a great multitude of the people from all Judaea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;	And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon,	He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon,
18	and those that were beset by unclean spirits were healed.	who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured.	who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured,
19	And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power went out from him and healed all.	And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all.	and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
20	And he, lifting up his eyes upon his disciples, said, Blessed [are] ye poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.	And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.	Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21	Blessed ye that hunger now, for ye shall be filled. Blessed ye that weep now, for ye shall laugh.	“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.	Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
22	Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you [from them], and shall reproach [you], and cast out your name as wicked, for the Son of man's sake:	“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!	Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.
23	rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in the heaven, for after this manner did their fathers act toward the prophets.	Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.	“Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.
24	But woe to you rich, for ye have received your consolation.	“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.	“But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.
25	Woe to you that are filled, for ye shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, for ye shall mourn and weep.	“Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.	Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
26	Woe, when all men speak well of you, for after this manner did their fathers to the false prophets.	“Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.	Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.
27	But to you that hear I say, Love your enemies; do good to those that hate you;	“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,	“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28	bless those that curse you; pray for those who use you despitefully.	bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.	bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29	To him that smites thee on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him that would take away thy garment, forbid not thy body-coat also.	To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either.	If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
30	To every one that asks of thee, give; and from him that takes away what is thine, ask it not back.	Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back.	Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
31	And as ye wish that men should do to you, do ye also to them in like manner.	And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.	Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32	And if ye love those that love you, what thank is it to you? for even sinners love those that love them.	“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.	“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
33	And if ye do good to those that do good to you, what thank is it to you? for even sinners do the same.	And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.	And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
34	And if ye lend to those from whom ye hope to receive, what thank is it to you? [for] even sinners lend to sinners that they may receive the like.	And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.	And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35	But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return, and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be sons of [the] Highest; for he is good to the unthankful and wicked.	But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.	But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36	Be ye therefore merciful, even as your Father also is merciful.	Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.	Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37	And judge not, and ye shall not be judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned. Remit, and it shall be remitted to you.	“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;	“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38	Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall be given into your bosom: for with the same measure with which ye mete it shall be measured to you again.	give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”	Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
39	And he spoke also a parable to them: Can a blind [man] lead a blind [man]? shall not both fall into [the] ditch?	He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?	He also told them this parable: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?
40	The disciple is not above his teacher, but every one that is perfected shall be as his teacher.	A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.	The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.
41	But why lookest thou on the mote which is in the eye of thy brother, but perceivest not the beam which is in thine own eye?	Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?	“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
42	or how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, allow [me], I will cast out the mote that is in thine eye, thyself not seeing the beam that is in thine eye? Hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine eye, and then thou shalt see clear to cast out the mote which is in the eye of thy brother.	How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.	How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
43	For there is no good tree which produces corrupt fruit, nor a corrupt tree which produces good fruit;	“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit,	“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.
44	for every tree is known by its own fruit, for figs are not gathered from thorns, nor grapes vintaged from a bramble.	for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.	Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers.
45	The good man, out of the good treasure of his heart, brings forth good; and the wicked [man] out of the wicked, brings forth what is wicked: for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.	The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.	A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
46	And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say?	“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?	“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
47	Every one that comes to me, and hears my words and does them, I will shew you to whom he is like.	Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:	As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.
48	He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock; but a great rain coming, the stream broke upon that house, and could not shake it, for it had been founded on the rock.	he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.	They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
49	And he that has heard and not done, is like a man who has built a house on the ground without [a] foundation, on which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the breach of that house was great.	But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”	But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
