| 7 | εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς τὸν ἀμπελουργόν Ἰδοὺ τρία ἔτη ἀφ’ οὗ ἔρχομαι ζητῶν καρπὸν ἐν τῇ συκῇ ταύτῃ καὶ οὐχ εὑρίσκω ἔκκοψον [οὖν] αὐτήν ἵνα‿ τί καὶ τὴν γῆν καταργεῖ | And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ | So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ | |
| 8 | Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς λέγει αὐτῷ Κύριε ἄφες αὐτὴν καὶ τοῦτο τὸ ἔτος ἕως ὅτου σκάψω περὶ αὐτὴν καὶ βάλω κόπρια | And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. | “’Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. | |
| 9 | κἂν μὲν ποιήσῃ καρπὸν εἰς τὸ μέλλον εἰ δὲ μή¦γε ἐκκόψεις αὐτήν | Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’” | If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’” | |
