1 Two days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there, On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 and Jesus also was invited and His disciples. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 Now the wine ran short; whereupon the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine." When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 "Leave the matter in my hands," He replied; "the time for me to act has not yet come." And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the attendants, "Whatever he tells you to do, do it." His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now there were six stone jars standing there (in accordance with the Jewish regulations for purification) Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to the attendants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them to the brim. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water|; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then He said, "Now, take some out, and carry it to the President of the feast." And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,
9 So they carried some to him. And no sooner had the President tasted the water now turned into wine, than--not knowing where it came from, though the attendants who had drawn the water knew--he called to the bridegroom When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 and said to him, "It is usual to put on the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then that which is inferior. But you have kept the good wine till now." and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 This, the first of His miracles, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and thus displayed His glorious power; and His disciples believed in Him. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 Afterwards He went down to Capernaum--He, and His mother, and His brothers, and His disciples; and they made a short stay there. After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
13 But the Jewish Passover was approaching, and for this Jesus went up to Jerusalem. The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And He found in the Temple the dealers in cattle and sheep and in pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.
15 So He plaited a whip of rushes, and drove all--both sheep and bullocks--out of the Temple. The small coin of the brokers He upset on the ground and overturned their tables. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
16 And to the pigeon-dealers He said, "Take these things away. Do not turn my Father's house into a market." And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
17 This recalled to His disciples the words of Scripture, "My zeal for Thy House will consume me." His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
18 So the Jews asked Him, "What proof of your authority do you exhibit to us, seeing that you do these things?" So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
19 "Demolish this Sanctuary," said Jesus, "and in three days I will rebuild it." Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 "It has taken forty-six years," replied the Jews, "to build this Sanctuary, and will you rebuild it in three days?" The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
21 But He was speaking of the Sanctuary of His body. But he was speaking about the temple of his body. But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
22 When however He had risen from among the dead, His disciples recollected that He had said this; and they believed the Scripture and the teaching which Jesus had given them. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem, at the Festival of the Passover, many became believers in Him through watching the miracles He performed. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.
24 But for His part, Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew them all, But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.
25 and did not need any one's testimony concerning a man, for He of Himself knew what was in the man. and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.
