1 And on the third day, a wedding was held in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 Now Jesus was also invited to the wedding, with his disciples. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 And when the wine was failing, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 And Jesus said to her: “What is that to me and to you, woman? My hour has not yet arrived.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now in that place, there were six stone water jars, for the purification ritual of the Jews, containing two or three measures each. Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the water jars with water.” And they filled them to the very top. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water|; so they filled them to the brim.
8 And Jesus said to them, “Now draw from it, and carry it to the chief steward of the feast.” And they took it to him. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,
9 Then, when the chief steward had tasted the water made into wine, since he did not know where it was from, for only the servants who had drawn the water knew, the chief steward called the groom, When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 and he said to him: “Every man offers the good wine first, and then, when they have become inebriated, he offers what is worse. But you have kept the good wine until now.” and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 This was the beginning of the signs that Jesus accomplished in Cana of Galilee, and it manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 After this, he descended to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, but they did not remain there for many days. After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
13 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and so Jesus ascended to Jerusalem. The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 And he found, sitting in the temple, sellers of oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.
15 And when he had made something like a whip out of little cords, he drove them all out of the temple, including the sheep and the oxen. And he poured out the brass coins of the moneychangers, and he overturned their tables. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
16 And to those who were selling doves, he said: “Take these things out of here, and do not make my Father’s house into a house of commerce.” And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
17 And truly, his disciples were reminded that it is written: “Zeal for your house consumes me.” His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
18 Then the Jews responded and said to him, “What sign can you show to us, that you may do these things?” So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
19 Jesus responded and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 Then the Jews said, “This temple has been built up over forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?” The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
21 Yet he was speaking about the Temple of his body. But he was speaking about the temple of his body. But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
22 Therefore, when he had resurrected from the dead, his disciples were reminded that he had said this, and they believed in the Scriptures and in the word that Jesus had spoken. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now while he was at Jerusalem during the Passover, on the day of the feast, many trusted in his name, seeing his signs that he was accomplishing. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.
24 But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he himself had knowledge of all persons, But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.
25 and because he had no need of anyone to offer testimony about a man. For he knew what was within a man. and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.
