1 And came to be the word of YHWH to me, saying: The word of the LORD came to me: The word of the LORD came to me:
2 “And you, son of man, thus says the Lord YHWH to the land of Israel, ‘An end has come, the end upon the four corners of the land! “And you, O son of man, thus says the Lord GOD to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land. “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: “’The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land!
3 Now the end is upon you—and I will send My nose against you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will recompense upon you all your abominations! Now the end is upon you, and I will send my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. The end is now upon you, and I will unleash my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.
4 And My eye will not have pity on you, and I will not have pity; for your ways I will recompense against you, and for your abominations that are in your midst. And you⁺ will know that I am YHWH.’ And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD. I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will surely repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you. “’Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
5 Thus says the Lord YHWH: ‘Disaster! A unique disaster! Behold, it is coming! “Thus says the Lord GOD: Disaster after disaster! Behold, it comes. “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “’Disaster! Unheard-of disaster! See, it comes!
6 An end has come; the end has come! It has roused itself against you. Behold, it is coming. An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes. The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. See, it comes!
7 Doom has come to you, O dweller of the land; the time has come, the day is near—of tumult, and not of rejoicing in the mountains! Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting on the mountains. Doom has come upon you, upon you who dwell in the land. The time has come! The day is near! There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.
8 Now soon I will pour out My fury upon you, and will complete My anger My anger; and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will recompense upon you for all your abominations. Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you, and spend my anger against you, and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations. I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices.
9 And My eye will not have pity, and I will not have pity; according to your ways I will recompense upon you, and your abominations will be in your midst. And you⁺ will know that I am YHWH, the One striking. And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the LORD, who strikes. I will not look on you with pity; I will not spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and for the detestable practices among you. “’Then you will know that it is I the LORD who strikes you.
10 Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! The doom has gone forth, the rod has blossomed, the arrogance has budded. “Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! Your doom has come; the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. “’See, the day! See, it comes! Doom has burst forth, the rod has budded, arrogance has blossomed!
11 Violence has risen up into a rod of wickedness—none of them, and none of their multitude, and none of their wealth, and nothing of eminence among them. Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them. Violence has arisen, a rod to punish the wicked. None of the people will be left, none of that crowd— none of their wealth, nothing of value.
12 The time has come, the day has drawn near! Let the buyer not rejoice, and let the seller not mourn; for wrath is upon all their multitude. The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude. The time has come! The day has arrived! Let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller grieve, for my wrath is on the whole crowd.
13 For the one selling will not return to what has been sold while they live their life; for the vision is to the whole multitude, and it will not turn back; and a man cannot by his iniquity strengthen his life. For the seller shall not return to what he has sold, while they live. For the vision concerns all their multitude; it shall not turn back; and because of his iniquity, none can maintain his life. The seller will not recover the property that was sold— as long as both buyer and seller live. For the vision concerning the whole crowd will not be reversed. Because of their sins, not one of them will preserve their life.
14 They have blown on the trumpet, and made ready everything; and there is not one going to the battle, for My wrath is against all their multitude. “They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but none goes to battle, for my wrath is upon all their multitude. “’They have blown the trumpet, they have made all things ready, but no one will go into battle, for my wrath is on the whole crowd.
15 The sword is is outside, and pestilence and famine inside the house. The one who is in the field will die by the sword, and the one who is in the city, famine and pestilence will devour him. The sword is without; pestilence and famine are within. He who is in the field dies by the sword, and him who is in the city famine and pestilence devour. Outside is the sword; inside are plague and famine. Those in the country will die by the sword; those in the city will be devoured by famine and plague.
16 And their fugatives will escape, and they will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, each one for his iniquity. And if any survivors escape, they will be on the mountains, like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, each one over his iniquity. The fugitives who escape will flee to the mountains. Like doves of the valleys, they will all moan, each for their own sins.
17 Every hand will go limp, and every knee will go as waters. All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water. Every hand will go limp; every leg will be wet with urine.
18 And they will be girded with sackcloth, and shuddering will cover them; and on every face is shame, and on all their heads baldness. They put on sackcloth, and horror covers them. Shame is on all faces, and baldness on all their heads. They will put on sackcloth and be clothed with terror. Every face will be covered with shame, and every head will be shaved.
19 Their silver they will throw into the streets, and their gold will become like refuse; their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of YHWH. Their souls they cannot satisfy, and their stomachs they cannot fill, for a stumbling block their iniquity has become. They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity. “’They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin.
20 And the beauty of His ornament, in majesty he set it, and the images of their abominations, their detestable things they made with it. Upon thus I have made it for them like refuse. His beautiful ornament they used for pride, and they made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore I make it an unclean thing to them. They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.
21 And I will give it into the hands of strangers as plunder, and to the wicked of the earth as spoil, and they will defile it. And I will give it into the hands of foreigners for prey, and to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and they shall profane it. I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile it.
22 And I will turn away My face from them, and they will defile My treasured place—and robbers will come into it, and they will defile it! I will turn my face from them, and they shall profane my treasured place. Robbers shall enter and profane it. I will turn my face away from the people, and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure. They will enter it and will defile it.
23 Make a chain! For the land is filled with with the judgment of blood, and the city is full of violence. “Forge a chain! For the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence. “’Prepare chains! For the land is full of bloodshed, and the city is full of violence.
24 And I will bring the evil of the nations, and they will possess their houses; and I will cause to cease the pride of the strong, and their holy places will be defiled. I will bring the worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the strong, and their holy places shall be profaned. I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.
25 Anguish comes, and they will seek peace and there is none. When anguish comes, they will seek peace, but there shall be none. When terror comes, they will seek peace in vain.
26 Disaster upon disaster will come, and rumor will be upon rumor; and they will seek a vision from a prophet, and the law will perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders. Disaster comes upon disaster; rumor follows rumor. They seek a vision from the prophet, while the law perishes from the priest and counsel from the elders. Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.
27 The king will mourn, and the prince will be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble; according to their own way I will deal with them, and by their own judgment I will judge them; and they will know that I am YHWH.’” The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, and they shall know that I am the LORD.” The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and by their own standards I will judge them. “’Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
