There has been a hand of YHWH on me, and He takes me forth in [the] Spirit of YHWH, and places me in the midst of the valley, and it is full of bones, | The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. | The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. |
and He causes me to pass over by them, all around, and behold, very many [are] on the face of the valley, and behold—very dry. | And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. | He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. |
And He says to me, “Son of man, do these bones live?” And I say, “O Lord YHWH, You have known.” | And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord GOD, you know.” | He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” |
And He says to me, “Prophesy concerning these bones, and you have said to them, O dry bones, hear a word of YHWH! | Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. | Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! |
Thus said Lord YHWH to these bones: Behold, I am bringing a spirit into you, and you have lived, | Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. | This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. |
and I have given sinews on you, and cause flesh to come up on you, and covered you over with skin, and given a spirit in you, and you have lived, and you have known that I [am] YHWH.” | And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the LORD.” | I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’” |
And I have prophesied as I have been commanded, and there is a noise as I am prophesying, and behold, a rushing, and the bones draw near, bone to its bone. | So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. | So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. |
And I beheld, and behold, sinews [are] on them, and flesh has come up, and skin covers them over above—and there is no spirit in them. | And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. | I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. |
And He says to me: “Prophesy to the Spirit, prophesy, son of man, and you have said to the Spirit, Thus said Lord YHWH: Come in from the four winds, O Spirit, and breathe on these slain, and they live.” | Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” | Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” |
And I have prophesied as He commanded me, and the Spirit comes into them, and they live, and stand on their feet—a very, very great force. | So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. | So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army. |
And He says to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they are saying, Our bones have dried up, || And our hope has perished, || We have been cut off by ourselves. | Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ | Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ |
Therefore, prophesy, and you have said to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: Behold, I am opening your graves, || And have brought you up out of your graves, O My people, || And brought you into the land of Israel. | Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. | Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. |
And you have known that I [am] YHWH, || In My opening your graves, || And in My bringing you up out of your graves, O My people. | And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. | Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. |
And I have given My Spirit in you, and you have lived, || And I have caused you to rest on your land, || And you have known that I, YHWH, have spoken, and I have done [it], || A declaration of YHWH.” | And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD.” | I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.’” |
And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying, | The word of the LORD came to me: | The word of the LORD came to me: |
“And you, son of man, take one stick for yourself, and write on it, || For Judah, and for the sons of Israel, his companions; and take another stick, and write on it, || For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and all the house of Israel, his companions, | “Son of man, take a stick and write on it, ‘For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him’; then take another stick and write on it, ‘For Joseph (the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.’ | “Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, ‘Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, ‘Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’ |
and bring them near to one another, to you, for one stick, and they have become one in your hand. | And join them one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand. | Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand. |
And when sons of your people speak to you, saying, Do you not declare to us what these [are] to you? | And when your people say to you, ‘Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’ | “When your people ask you, ‘Won’t you tell us what you mean by this?’ |
Speak to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: Behold, I am taking the stick of Joseph, that [is] in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions, and have given them to him, with the stick of Judah, and have made them become one stick, and they have been one in My hand. | say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am about to take the stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, that they may be one in my hand. | say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am going to take the stick of Joseph—which is in Ephraim’s hand—and of the Israelite tribes associated with him, and join it to Judah’s stick. I will make them into a single stick of wood, and they will become one in my hand.’ |
And the sticks on which you write have been in your hand before your eyes, | When the sticks on which you write are in your hand before their eyes, | Hold before their eyes the sticks you have written on |
and speak to them, Thus said Lord YHWH: Behold, I am taking the sons of Israel, || From among the nations to where they have gone, || And have gathered them from all around, || And I have brought them into their land. | then say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land. | and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. |
And I have made them become one nation in the land, on mountains of Israel, || And one king is to them all for king, || And they are no longer as two nations, || Nor are they divided anymore into two kingdoms again. | And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms. | I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms. |
Nor are they defiled anymore with their idols, || And with their abominations, || And with any of their transgressions, || And I have saved them out of all their dwellings, || In which they have sinned, || And I have cleansed them, || And they have been to Me for a people, || And I am to them for God. | They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God. | They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding, and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will be their God. |
And My servant David [is] king over them, || And they all have one shepherd, || And they go in My judgments, || And they keep My statutes, and have done them. | “My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes. | “’My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. |
And they have dwelt on the land that I gave to My servant, to Jacob, || In which your fathers have dwelt, || And they have dwelt on it, they and their sons, || And their son’s sons—for all time, || And My servant David [is] their prince for all time. | They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there forever, and David my servant shall be their prince forever. | They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever. |
And I have made a covenant of peace with them, || It is a perpetual covenant with them, || And I have placed them, and multiplied them, || And placed My sanctuary in their midst for all time. | I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. | I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. |
And My dwelling place has been over them, || And I have been to them for God, || And they have been to Me for a people. | My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. | My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. |
And the nations have known that I, YHWH, am sanctifying Israel, || In My sanctuary being in their midst for all time!” | Then the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” | Then the nations will know that I the LORD make Israel holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.’” |
