These are the names of the Israelis who entered Egypt with Jacob, each one having come with his family: These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob, each with his household: These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family:
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah;
Issacar, Zebulun, Benjamin, Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin;
Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher.
All those who descended from Jacob totaled 75 persons. Now Joseph was already in Egypt. All the descendants of Jacob were seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt. The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was already in Egypt.
Then Joseph, all his brothers, and that entire generation died. Then Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
But the Israelis were fruitful and increased abundantly. They multiplied in numbers and became very, very strong. As a result, the land was filled with them. But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them. but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.
Eventually a new king who was unacquainted with Joseph came to power in Egypt. Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.
He told his people, |Look, the Israeli people are more numerous and more powerful than we are. And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us.
Come on, let's be careful how we treat them, so that when they grow numerous, if a war breaks out they won't join our enemies, fight against us, and leave our land.| Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.”
So the Egyptians placed supervisors over them, oppressing them with heavy burdens. The Israelis built the supply cities of Pithom and Rameses for Pharaoh. Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.
But the more the Egyptians afflicted the Israelis, the more they multiplied and flourished, so that the Egyptians became terrified of the Israelis. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites
The Egyptians ruthlessly forced the Israelis to serve them, So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves and worked them ruthlessly.
making their lives bitter through hard labor with mortar, bricks, and all kinds of outdoor labor. They ruthlessly imposed all this work on them. and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves. They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.
Later, the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah. Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,
|When you help the Hebrew women give birth,| he said, |watch them as they deliver. If it's a son, kill him; but if it's a daughter, let her live.| “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.”
But the midwives feared God and didn't do what the king of Egypt told them. Instead, they let the boys live. But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.
When the king of Egypt called for the midwives, he asked them, |Why have you done this and allowed the boys to live?| So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
|Hebrew women aren't like Egyptian women,| the midwives replied to Pharaoh. |They're so healthy that they give birth before the midwives arrive to help them.| The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”
God was pleased with the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very strong. So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous.
Because the midwives feared God, he provided families for them. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.
Meanwhile, Pharaoh continued commanding all of his people, |You're to throw every Hebrew son who is born into the Nile River, but you're to allow every Hebrew daughter to live.| Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.” Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”
