1 “If there is a dispute between men and they go to court for judgment, and the judges judge their case, and they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked, “If there is a dispute between men and they come into court and the judges decide between them, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty, When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.
2 then it shall be if the wicked man deserves to be struck, the judge shall then make him lie down and be struck in his presence with the number of stripes according to his guilt. then if the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with a number of stripes in proportion to his offense. If the guilty person deserves to be beaten, the judge shall make them lie down and have them flogged in his presence with the number of lashes the crime deserves,
3 He may strike him forty times but no more, lest he strike him with many more stripes than these and your brother be dishonored in your eyes. Forty stripes may be given him, but not more, lest, if one should go on to beat him with more stripes than these, your brother be degraded in your sight. but the judge must not impose more than forty lashes. If the guilty party is flogged more than that, your fellow Israelite will be degraded in your eyes.
4 “You shall not muzzle the ox while it is threshing. “You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain. Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.
5 “If brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, then the wife of the one who died shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead man shall not be married outside the family to a stranger. Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her as his wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her. If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall take her and marry her and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her.
6 And it will be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel. And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel. The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel.
7 But if the man does not desire to take his brother’s wife, then his brother’s wife shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to raise up a name for his brother in Israel; he is not willing to perform the duty of a husband’s brother to me.’ And if the man does not wish to take his brother’s wife, then his brother’s wife shall go up to the gate to the elders and say, ‘My husband’s brother refuses to perpetuate his brother’s name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband’s brother to me.’ However, if a man does not want to marry his brother’s wife, she shall go to the elders at the town gate and say, “My husband’s brother refuses to carry on his brother’s name in Israel. He will not fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to me.”
8 Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak to him. And if he stands and says, ‘I do not desire to take her,’ Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him, and if he persists, saying, ‘I do not wish to take her,’ Then the elders of his town shall summon him and talk to him. If he persists in saying, “I do not want to marry her,”
9 then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the sight of the elders and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, ‘Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.’ then his brother’s wife shall go up to him in the presence of the elders and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face. And she shall answer and say, ‘So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.’ his brother’s widow shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, take off one of his sandals, spit in his face and say, “This is what is done to the man who will not build up his brother’s family line.”
10 And in Israel his name shall be called, ‘The house of him whose sandal is removed.’ And the name of his house shall be called in Israel, ‘The house of him who had his sandal pulled off.’ That man’s line shall be known in Israel as The Family of the Unsandaled.
11 “If two men, a man and his brother, are struggling together, and the wife of one comes near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one who is striking him, and she puts out her hand and seizes his genitals, “When men fight with one another and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts,
12 then you shall cut off her hand; you shall not show pity. then you shall cut off her hand. Your eye shall have no pity. you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.
13 “You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a large and a small. “You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small. Do not have two differing weights in your bag—one heavy, one light.
14 You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a small. You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small. Do not have two differing measures in your house—one large, one small.
15 You shall have a full and just weight; you shall have a full and just measure, that your days may be prolonged in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. A full and fair weight you shall have, a full and fair measure you shall have, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
16 For everyone who does these things, everyone who acts unjustly, is an abomination to Yahweh your God. For all who do such things, all who act dishonestly, are an abomination to the LORD your God. For the LORD your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.
17 “Remember what Amalek did to you along the way when you came out from Egypt, “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt.
18 how he met you along the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear, but you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God. how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.
19 Therefore it will be, when Yahweh your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies, in the land which Yahweh your God gives you as an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget. Therefore when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget. When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!
