1	When the uproar was over, Paul sent for the believers and encouraged them. Then he said good-bye and left for Macedonia. 2	While there, he encouraged the believers in all the towns he passed through. 3	where he stayed for three months. He was preparing to sail back to Syria when he discovered a plot by some Jews against his life, so he decided to return through Macedonia.	There he spent three months, and when a plot was made against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia.	where he stayed three months. 4	Several men were traveling with him. They were Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea; Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe; Timothy; and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.	Sopater the Berean, son of Pyrrhus, accompanied him; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and the Asians, Tychicus and Trophimus.	He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.

7	On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord’s Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight. 9	As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he fell sound asleep and dropped three stories to his death below.	And a young man named Eutychus, sitting at the window, sank into a deep sleep as Paul talked still longer. And being overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.	Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.
10	Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. “Don’t worry,” he said, “he’s alive!”	But Paul went down and bent over him, and taking him in his arms, said, “Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him.”	Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “He’s alive!”
11	Then they all went back upstairs, shared in the Lord’s Supper, and ate together. Paul continued talking to them until dawn, and then he left.	And when Paul had gone up and had broken bread and eaten, he conversed with them a long while, until daybreak, and so departed.	Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left.
12	Meanwhile, the young man was taken home alive and well, and everyone was greatly relieved.	And they took the youth away alive, and were not a little comforted.	The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.
13	Paul went by land to Assos, where he had arranged for us to join him, while we traveled by ship.	But going ahead to the ship, we set sail for Assos, intending to take Paul aboard there, for so he had arranged, intending himself to go by land.	We went on ahead to the ship and sailed for Assos, where we were going to take Paul aboard. He had made this arrangement because he was going there on foot.
14	He joined us there, and we sailed together to Mitylene.	And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene.	When he met us at Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.
15	The next day we sailed past the island of Kios. The following day we crossed to the island of Samos, and a day later we arrived at Miletus.	And sailing from there we came the following day opposite Chios; the next day we touched at Samos; and the day after that we went to Miletus.	The next day we set sail from there and arrived off Chios. The day after that we crossed over to Samos, and on the following day arrived at Miletus.
16	Paul had decided to sail on past Ephesus, for he didn’t want to spend any more time in the province of Asia. He was hurrying to get to Jerusalem, if possible, in time for the Festival of Pentecost.	For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he might not have to spend time in Asia, for he was hastening to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.	Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus to avoid spending time in the province of Asia, for he was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, if possible, by the day of Pentecost.
17	But when we landed at Miletus, he sent a message to the elders of the church at Ephesus, asking them to come and meet him.	Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him.	From Miletus, Paul sent to Ephesus for the elders of the church.
18	When they arrived he declared, “You know that from the day I set foot in the province of Asia until now	And when they came to him, he said to them: “You yourselves know how I lived among you the whole time from the first day that I set foot in Asia,	When they arrived, he said to them: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you, from the first day I came into the province of Asia.
19	I have done the Lord’s work humbly and with many tears. I have endured the trials that came to me from the plots of the Jews.	serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials that happened to me through the plots of the Jews;	I served the Lord with great humility and with tears and in the midst of severe testing by the plots of my Jewish opponents.
20	I never shrank back from telling you what you needed to hear, either publicly or in your homes.	how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you in public and from house to house,	You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house.
21	I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike—the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus.	testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.	I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.
22	“And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don’t know what awaits me,	And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there,	“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.
23	except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead.	except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me.	I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.
24	But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.	But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.	However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.
25	“And now I know that none of you to whom I have preached the Kingdom will ever see me again.	And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again.	“Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again.
26	I declare today that I have been faithful. If anyone suffers eternal death, it’s not my fault,	Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all,	Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you.
27	for I didn’t shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know.	for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.	For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
28	“So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.	Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.	Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
29	I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock.	I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;	I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock.
30	Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following.	and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.	Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.
31	Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.	Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears.	So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears.
32	“And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself.	And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.	“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
33	“I have never coveted anyone’s silver or gold or fine clothes.	I coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.	I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing.
34	You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.	You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me.	You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.
35	And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”	In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”	In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ “
36	When he had finished speaking, he knelt and prayed with them.	And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all.	When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.
37	They all cried as they embraced and kissed him good-bye.	And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him,	They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him.
38	They were sad most of all because he had said that they would never see him again. Then they escorted him down to the ship.	being sorrowful most of all because of the word he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship.	What grieved them most was his statement that they would never see his face again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
