1	And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a cohort that is called Italian,	At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort,	At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment.
2	pious, and fearing God with all his house, also doing many kind acts to the people, and always imploring God;	a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.	He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.
3	he saw in a vision openly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius”;	About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”	One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”
4	and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your kind acts came up for a memorial before God,	And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.	Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.
5	and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter;	And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter.	Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.
6	this one lodges with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one will speak to you what you must do.”	He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.”	He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.”
7	And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his servants, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,	When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him,	When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants.
8	and having expounded all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.	and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.	He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.
9	And on the next day, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing near to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour,	The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.	About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.
10	and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell on him a trance,	And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance	He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.
11	and he beholds Heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending to him, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down on the earth,	and saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.	He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.
12	in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the sky,	In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air.	It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds.
13	and there came a voice to him: “Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.”	And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”	Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14	And Peter said, “Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean”;	But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”	“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
15	and [there is] a voice again a second time to him: “What God cleansed, you do not declare common”;	And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”	The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
16	and this was done three times, and again was the vessel received up to Heaven.	This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.	This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17	And as Peter was perplexed in himself what the vision that he saw might be, then, behold, the men who have been sent from Cornelius, having made inquiry for the house of Simon, stood at the gate,	Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood at the gate	While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate.
18	and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, lodges here.	and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.	They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19	And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you;	And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you.	While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you.
20	but having risen, go down and go on with them, doubting nothing, because I have sent them”;	Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.”	So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21	and Peter having come down to the men who have been sent from Cornelius to him, said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek, what [is] the cause for which you are present?”	And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?”	Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22	And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for you, to his house, and to hear sayings from you.”	And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”	The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”
23	Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the next day Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brothers from Joppa went with him,	So he invited them in to be his guests. The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.	Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along.
24	and on the next day they entered into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and near friends,	And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.	The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
25	and as it came that Peter entered in, Cornelius having met him, having fallen at [his] feet, worshiped [him];	When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.	As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence.
26	and Peter raised him, saying, “Stand up; I am also a man myself”;	But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”	But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”
27	and talking with him he went in, and finds many having come together.	And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.	While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.
28	And he said to them, “You know how it is unlawful for a man, a Jew, to keep company with, or to come to, one of another race, but God showed to me to call no man common or unclean;	And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.	He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.
29	therefore also without contradicting I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter you sent for me?”	So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.”	So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
30	And Cornelius said, “Four days ago until this hour, I was fasting, and [at] the ninth hour praying in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in radiant clothing,	And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing	Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me
31	and he said, Cornelius, your prayer was heard, and your kind acts were remembered before God;	and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.	and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.
32	send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, will speak to you;	Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’	Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’
33	at once, therefore, I sent to you; you also did well, having come; now, therefore, we are all present before God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”	So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”	So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34	And Peter having opened his mouth, said, “Of a truth, I perceive that God is not favoring by appearance,	So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,	Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism
35	but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;	but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.	but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.
36	the word that He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news—peace through Jesus Christ (this One is Lord of all),	As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),	You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
37	you have known the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the immersion that John preached;	you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:	You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached—
38	Jesus who [is] from Nazareth—how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the Devil, because God was with Him;	how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.	how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39	and we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem—whom they slew, having hanged [Him] on a tree.	And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,	“We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross,
40	This One God raised up [on] the third day, and gave Him to become visible,	but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear,	but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.
41	not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God—to us who ate with [Him], and drank with Him, after His rising out of the dead;	not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.	He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
42	and He commanded us to preach to the people, and to fully testify that it is He who has been ordained judge of living and dead by God—	And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.	He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.
43	to this One do all the Prophets testify, that through His Name everyone that is believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”	To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”	All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
44	While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy Spirit fell on all those hearing the word,	While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.	While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
45	and those of circumcision [who were] believing were astonished—as many as came with Peter—because the gift of the Holy Spirit has also been poured out on the nations,	And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.	The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.
46	for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.	For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,	For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,
47	Then Peter answered, “Is anyone able to forbid the water, that these may not be immersed, who received the Holy Spirit—even as us also?”	“Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”	“Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”
48	He commanded them to also be immersed in the Name of the LORD; then they implored him to remain certain days.	And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.	So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
