1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those having obtained a faith equally precious with ours, through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you⁺ in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
3 Accordingly, His divine power has given to us all things toward life and godliness, through the knowledge of the One having called us by His own glory and excellence, His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
4 through which He has given to us the precious and magnificent promises, so that through these you⁺ might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in evil desire. by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 Now also for this very reason, having brought in all diligence, supply in your⁺ faith virtue, and in virtue knowledge, For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
6 and in knowledge self-control, and in self-control perseverance, and in perseverance godliness, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
7 and in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection love. and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
8 For these things being in you⁺ and abounding make you neither idle nor unfruitful in regard to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For in whomever these things are not present, he is blind, being shortsighted, having received forgetfulness of the cleansing from his former sins. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, brothers, be diligent, rather, to make your⁺ calling and election sure. For in doing these things, never at any time shall you⁺ stumble. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,
11 For in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied to you⁺. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
12 Therefore I will be ready always to remind you⁺ concerning these things, though knowing them and having been strengthened in the truth being present. Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
13 Now I esteem it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you⁺ up in a reminder, I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,
14 knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is soon, as also our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
15 And I will be diligent also for you⁺ to have at every time after my departure these things, to make a lasting remembrance. And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.
16 For we did not make known to you⁺ the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ having followed after cleverly devised myths, but having been eyewitnesses of His majesty. For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For having received honor and glory from God the Father, a voice such as follows was brought to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is My Son, My beloved, in whom I was well pleased.” For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
18 And we heard this voice having been brought out of heaven, being with Him in the holy mountain. we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
19 And we have the more certain prophetic word, to which you⁺ do well taking heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until this day shall have dawned and the morning star shall have arisen in your⁺ hearts, And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20 knowing this first, that every prophecy of Scripture is not of its own interpretation. knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.
21 For not by the will of man was prophecy brought forth at any time, but being carried by the Holy Spirit, men spoke from God. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
