1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him. 2 And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel. And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel. And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel. And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, <i>and</i> that his kingdom was highly exalted, for the sake of His people Israel. And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that his kingdom had been highly exalted for the sake of his people Israel.
3 And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters. And David took more wives in Jerusalem, and David fathered more sons and daughters. 8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them. 10 So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.” And David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And will You hand them over to me?” Then the LORD said to him, “Go up, for I will hand them over to you.” so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”
11 So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place Baal-perazim. And he went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a bursting flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim. So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim. So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim. So David and his men went up to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, God has broken out against my enemies by my hand.” So that place was called Baal Perazim.
12 There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire. And they left their gods there, and David gave command, and they were burned. And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire. They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire. The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, and David gave orders to burn them in the fire.
13 Once again the Philistines raided the valley. And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley. And the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. The Philistines carried out yet another raid in the valley. Once more the Philistines raided the valley;
14 So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees. And when David again inquired of God, God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; go around and come against them opposite the balsam trees. Therefore David inquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the baka-shrubs. so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, “Do not go directly after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.
15 As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has marched out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike down the army of the Philistines.” And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, <i>that</i> then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the baka-shrubs, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.” As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.”
16 So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer. And David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer. David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. David did just as God had commanded him, and they defeated the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer. So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army, all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.
17 And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him. And the fame of David went out into all lands, and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations. And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations. Then the fame of David spread in all the lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him on all the nations. So David’s fame spread throughout every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.
