New Living Translation | New International Version |
Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. | 1Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. |
Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. | 2Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. |
Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. | 3Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. |
For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. | 4For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. |
He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth. | 5The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. |
The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. | 6By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. |
He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. | 7He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. |
Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. |
For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. | 9For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. |
The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. | 10The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. |
But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. | 11But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. |
What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. |
The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. | 13From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; |
From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. | 14from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth-- |
He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. | 15he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. |
The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. | 16No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. |
Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. | 17A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. |
But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. | 18But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, |
He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. | 19to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. |
We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. | 20We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. |
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. | 21In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. |
Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone. | 22May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you. |
