New Living Translation | King James Bible |
Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. | 1Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. |
Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. | 2Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. |
Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. | 3Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. |
For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. | 4For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. |
He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth. | 5He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. |
The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. | 6By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. |
He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. | 7He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. |
Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. | 8Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. |
For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. | 9For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. |
The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. | 10The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect. |
But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. | 11The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. |
What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. | 12Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. |
The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. | 13The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. |
From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. | 14From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. |
He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. | 15He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works. |
The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. | 16There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. |
Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. | 17An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength. |
But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. | 18Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; |
He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. | 19To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. |
We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. | 20Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. |
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. | 21For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. |
Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone. | 22Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. |
