| 1I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! | 1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. |
| 2When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. | 2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. |
| 3I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude | 3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) |
| 4You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray! | 4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. |
