New Living TranslationNET Bible
I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me!1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me.
When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted.2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted.
I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah)
You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray!4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak.
I think of the good old days, long since ended,5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times.
when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now.6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening.
Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me?7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor?
Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed?8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever?
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?"
And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.”10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive.
But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago!
They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.12I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!"
O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you?13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God?
You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations.
By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah)
When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths.16The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear.
The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed.17The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about.
Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook.18Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.
Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there!19You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints.
You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.20You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
