Deuteronomy 10
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
“At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. Also make a wooden Ark—a sacred chest to store them in. Come up to me on the mountain,1“At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain and make an ark of wood.
and I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tablets in the Ark.’2And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.’
“So I made an Ark of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first two. Then I went up the mountain with the tablets in my hand.3So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.
Once again the LORD wrote the Ten Commandments on the tablets and gave them to me. They were the same words the LORD had spoken to you from the heart of the fire on the day you were assembled at the foot of the mountain.4And he wrote on the tablets, in the same writing as before, the Ten Commandments that the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.
Then I turned and came down the mountain and placed the tablets in the Ark of the Covenant, which I had made, just as the LORD commanded me. And the tablets are still there in the Ark.”5Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark that I had made. And there they are, as the LORD commanded me.”
(The people of Israel set out from the wells of the people of Jaakan and traveled to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried. His son Eleazar ministered as high priest in his place.6(The people of Israel journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried. And his son Eleazar ministered as priest in his place.
Then they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from there to Jotbathah, a land with many brooks and streams.7From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with brooks of water.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant, and to stand before the LORD as his ministers, and to pronounce blessings in his name. These are their duties to this day.8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD to stand before the LORD to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.
That is why the Levites have no share of property or possession of land among the other Israelite tribes. The LORD himself is their special possession, as the LORD your God told them.)9Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers. The LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God said to him.)
“As for me, I stayed on the mountain in the LORD’s presence for forty days and nights, as I had done the first time. And once again the LORD listened to my pleas and agreed not to destroy you.10“I myself stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and the LORD listened to me that time also. The LORD was unwilling to destroy you.
Then the LORD said to me, ‘Get up and resume the journey, and lead the people to the land I swore to give to their ancestors, so they may take possession of it.’ A Call to Love and Obedience11And the LORD said to me, ‘Arise, go on your journey at the head of the people, so that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.’
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the LORD your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.12“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
And you must always obey the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good.13and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good?
“Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the LORD your God.14Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.
Yet the LORD chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today.15Yet the LORD set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day.
Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn.16Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.
“For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.17For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.18He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.
So you, too, must show love to foreigners, for you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.19Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
You must fear the LORD your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone.20You shall fear the LORD your God. You shall serve him and hold fast to him, and by his name you shall swear.
He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes.21He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.
When your ancestors went down into Egypt, there were only seventy of them. But now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky!22Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.
