Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock. O God, enthroned above the cherubim, display your radiant glory1For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.” A Psalm of Asaph. Hear us, O Shepherd of Israel, who leads Joseph like a flock; You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth
to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Show us your mighty power. Come to rescue us!2before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh. Rally Your mighty power and come to save us.
Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.3Restore us, O God, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved.
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers?4O LORD God of Hosts, how long will Your anger smolder against the prayers of Your people?
You have fed us with sorrow and made us drink tears by the bucketful.5You fed them with the bread of tears and made them drink the full measure of their tears.
You have made us the scorn of neighboring nations. Our enemies treat us as a joke.6You make us contend with our neighbors; our enemies mock us.
Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.7Restore us, O God of Hosts, and cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved.
You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land.8You uprooted a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and transplanted it.
You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land.9You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.
Our shade covered the mountains; our branches covered the mighty cedars.10The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.
We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea; our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River.11It sent out its branches to the Sea, and its shoots toward the River.
But now, why have you broken down our walls so that all who pass by may steal our fruit?12Why have You broken down its walls, so that all who pass by pick its fruit?
The wild boar from the forest devours it, and the wild animals feed on it.13The boar from the forest ravages it, and the creatures of the field feed upon it.
Come back, we beg you, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Look down from heaven and see our plight. Take care of this grapevine14Return, O God of Hosts, we pray! Look down from heaven and see! Attend to this vine—
that you yourself have planted, this son you have raised for yourself.15the root Your right hand has planted, the son You have raised up for Yourself.
For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies. May they perish at the sight of your frown.16Your vine has been cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
Strengthen the man you love, the son of your choice.17Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand, on the son of man You have raised up for Yourself.
Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more.18Then we will not turn away from You; revive us, and we will call on Your name.
Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.19Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your face to shine upon us, that we may be saved.
