New King James Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. | 1Now Peter and John were going up together to the temple complex at the hour of prayer at three in the afternoon. |
And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; | 2And a man who was lame from birth was carried there and placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so he could beg from those entering the temple complex. |
who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. | 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter the temple complex, he asked for help. |
And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” | 4Peter, along with John, looked at him intently and said, "Look at us." |
So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. | 5So he turned to them, expecting to get something from them. |
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” | 6But Peter said, "I don't have silver or gold, but what I have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!" |
And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. | 7Then, taking him by the right hand he raised him up, and at once his feet and ankles became strong. |
So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God. | 8So he jumped up, stood, and started to walk, and he entered the temple complex with them--walking, leaping, and praising God. |
And all the people saw him walking and praising God. | 9All the people saw him walking and praising God, |
Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. | 10and they recognized that he was the one who used to sit and beg at the Beautiful Gate of the temple complex. So they were filled with awe and astonishment at what had happened to him. |
Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. | 11While he was holding on to Peter and John, all the people, greatly amazed, ran toward them in what is called Solomon's Colonnade. |
So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? | 12When Peter saw this, he addressed the people: "Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Or why do you stare at us, as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness? |
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. | 13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. |
But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, | 14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you. |
and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. | 15You killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead; we are witnesses of this. |
And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. | 16By faith in His name, His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. So the faith that comes through Him has given him this perfect health in front of all of you." |
“Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers. | 17And now, brothers, I know that you did it in ignorance, just as your leaders also did. |
But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. | 18But what God predicted through the mouth of all the prophets--that His Messiah would suffer--He has fulfilled in this way. |
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, | 19Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, |
and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, | 20and that He may send Jesus, who has been appointed for you as the Messiah. |
whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. | 21Heaven must welcome Him until the times of the restoration of all things, which God spoke about by the mouth of His holy prophets from the beginning. |
For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. | 22Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He will say to you. |
And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ | 23And everyone who will not listen to that Prophet will be completely cut off from the people." |
Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. | 24In addition, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those after him, have also announced these days. |
You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ | 25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring. |
To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.” | 26God raised up His Servant and sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways." |
