Psalm 74
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
A Contemplation of Asaph. O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?1O God, why do you cast us off forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, The tribe of Your inheritance, which You have redeemed— This Mount Zion where You have dwelt.2Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage! Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.
Lift up Your feet to the perpetual desolations. The enemy has damaged everything in the sanctuary.3Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins; the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!
Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners for signs.4Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place; they set up their own signs for signs.
They seem like men who lift up Axes among the thick trees.5They were like those who swing axes in a forest of trees.
And now they break down its carved work, all at once, With axes and hammers.6And all its carved wood they broke down with hatchets and hammers.
They have set fire to Your sanctuary; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name to the ground.7They set your sanctuary on fire; they profaned the dwelling place of your name, bringing it down to the ground.
They said in their hearts, “Let us destroy them altogether.” They have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land.8They said to themselves, “We will utterly subdue them”; they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.
We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet; Nor is there any among us who knows how long.9We do not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet, and there is none among us who knows how long.
O God, how long will the adversary reproach? Will the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?10How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?
Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Take it out of Your bosom and destroy them.11Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the fold of your garment and destroy them!
For God is my King from of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.12Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea serpents in the waters.13You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters on the waters.
You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, And gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.14You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
You broke open the fountain and the flood; You dried up mighty rivers.15You split open springs and brooks; you dried up ever-flowing streams.
The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun.16Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.
You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.17You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.
Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, And that a foolish people has blasphemed Your name.18Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy scoffs, and a foolish people reviles your name.
Oh, do not deliver the life of Your turtledove to the wild beast! Do not forget the life of Your poor forever.19Do not deliver the soul of your dove to the wild beasts; do not forget the life of your poor forever.
Have respect to the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the haunts of cruelty.20Have regard for the covenant, for the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
Oh, do not let the oppressed return ashamed! Let the poor and needy praise Your name.21Let not the downtrodden turn back in shame; let the poor and needy praise your name.
Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily.22Arise, O God, defend your cause; remember how the foolish scoff at you all the day!
Do not forget the voice of Your enemies; The tumult of those who rise up against You increases continually.23Do not forget the clamor of your foes, the uproar of those who rise against you, which goes up continually!
