| 1Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: | 1After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. |

| 3"I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." | 13Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. | 13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. |

| 15When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." | 17The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." | 18Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." | 18Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” |
| 19Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!" | 19(This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.” |
| 20Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") | 20Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” |
| 21When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" | 21When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” |
| 22Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me." | 22Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” |
| 23Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?" | 23So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” |
| 24This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. | 24This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. |
| 25Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. | 25Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. |
