By David. O LORD, I come before you in prayer. 1A Psalm of David. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me! 2O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.
Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated. Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted and humiliated. 3Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.
Make me understand your ways, O LORD! Teach me your paths! 4Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.
Guide me into your truth and teach me. For you are the God who delivers me; on you I rely all day long. 5Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Remember your compassionate and faithful deeds, O LORD, for you have always acted in this manner. 6Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.
Do not hold against me the sins of my youth or my rebellious acts! Because you are faithful to me, extend to me your favor, O LORD! 7Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.
The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live. 8Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way! 9The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
The LORD always proves faithful and reliable to those who follow the demands of his covenant. 10All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
For the sake of your reputation, O LORD, forgive my sin, because it is great. 11For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
The LORD shows his faithful followers the way they should live. 12What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land. 13His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.
The LORD's loyal followers receive his guidance, and he reveals his covenantal demands to them. 14The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
I continually look to the LORD for help, for he will free my feet from the enemy's net. 15Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and oppressed! 16Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering! 17The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.
See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins! 18Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me. 19Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.
Protect me and deliver me! Please do not let me be humiliated, for I have taken shelter in you! 20O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
May integrity and godliness protect me, for I rely on you! 21Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
O God, rescue Israel from all their distress! 22Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
