God, do not rest! Don't be silent! Don't stay inactive, God! | 1A song. A psalm of Asaph. God, do not keep silent. Do not be deaf, God; do not be idle. |
See! Your enemies rage; those who hate you issue threats. | 2See how Your enemies make an uproar; those who hate You have acted arrogantly. |
They plot against your people and conspire against your cherished ones. | 3They devise clever schemes against Your people; they conspire against Your treasured ones. |
They say, "Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore." | 4They say, "Come, let us wipe them out as a nation so that Israel's name will no longer be remembered." |
Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you— | 5For they have conspired with one mind; they form an alliance against You-- |
the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites, | 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, |
Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the inhabitants of Tyre. | 7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre. |
Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude | 8Even Assyria has joined them; they lend support to the sons of Lot. Selah |
Deal with them as you did to Midian, Sisera, and Jabin at the Kishon Brook. | 9Deal with them as You did with Midian, as You did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River. |
They were destroyed at En-dor and became as dung on the ground. | 10They were destroyed at En-dor; they became manure for the ground. |
Punish their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, | 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna, |
who said, "Let us possess the pastures of God." | 12who said, "Let us seize God's pastures for ourselves." |
God, set them up like dried thistles, like straw before the wind. | 13Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like straw before the wind. |
Like a fire burning a forest, and a flame setting mountains ablaze. | 14As fire burns a forest, as a flame blazes through mountains, |
Pursue them with your storm and terrify them with your whirlwind. | 15so pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm. |
Fill their faces with shame until they seek your name, God. | 16Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek Your name Yahweh. |
Let them be humiliated and terrified permanently until they die in shame. | 17Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. |
Then they will know that you alone— whose name is LORD— are the Most High over all the earth. | 18May they know that You alone-- whose name is Yahweh-- are the Most High over all the earth. |
