HCSB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
Observe this: The Lord GOD of Hosts is about to remove from Jerusalem and from Judah every kind of security: the entire supply of bread and water, 1For behold, the Lord GOD of hosts is taking away from Jerusalem and from Judah support and supply, all support of bread, and all support of water;
the hero and warrior, the judge and prophet, the fortune-teller and elder, 2the mighty man and the soldier, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder,
the commander of 50 and the dignitary, the counselor, cunning magician, and necromancer." 3the captain of fifty and the man of rank, the counselor and the skillful magician and the expert in charms.
I will make youths their leaders, and the unstable will govern them." 4And I will make boys their princes, and infants shall rule over them.
The people will oppress one another, man against man, neighbor against neighbor; the youth will act arrogantly toward the elder, and the worthless toward the honorable. 5And the people will oppress one another, every one his fellow and every one his neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder, and the despised to the honorable.
A man will even seize his brother in his father's house, saying:" You have a cloak--you be our leader! This heap of rubble will be under your control." 6For a man will take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying: “You have a cloak; you shall be our leader, and this heap of ruins shall be under your rule”;
On that day he will cry out, saying:" I'm not a healer. I don't even have food or clothing in my house. Don't make me the leader of the people!" 7in that day he will speak out, saying: “I will not be a healer; in my house there is neither bread nor cloak; you shall not make me leader of the people.”
For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen because they have spoken and acted against the LORD, defying His glorious presence. 8For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious presence.
The look on their faces testifies against them, and like Sodom, they flaunt their sin. They do not conceal it. Woe to them, for they have brought evil on themselves. 9For the look on their faces bears witness against them; they proclaim their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! For they have brought evil on themselves.
Tell the righteous that it will go well for them, for they will eat the fruit of their labor. 10Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.
Woe to the wicked--it will go badly for them, for what they have done will be done to them. 11Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for what his hands have dealt out shall be done to him.
Youths oppress My people, and women rule over them. My people, your leaders mislead you; they confuse the direction of your paths. 12My people—infants are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, your guides mislead you and they have swallowed up the course of your paths.
The LORD rises to argue the case and stands to judge the people. 13The LORD has taken his place to contend; he stands to judge peoples.
The LORD brings this charge against the elders and leaders of His people:" You have devastated the vineyard. The plunder from the poor is in your houses. 14The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders and princes of his people: “It is you who have devoured the vineyard, the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
Why do you crush My people and grind the faces of the poor?" This is the declaration of the Lord GOD of Hosts. 15What do you mean by crushing my people, by grinding the face of the poor?” declares the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD also says: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, walking with heads held high and seductive eyes, going along with prancing steps, jingling their ankle bracelets, 16The LORD said: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks, glancing wantonly with their eyes, mincing along as they go, tinkling with their feet,
the Lord will put scabs on the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will shave their foreheads bare. 17therefore the Lord will strike with a scab the heads of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will lay bare their secret parts.
On that day the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,18In that day the Lord will take away the finery of the anklets, the headbands, and the crescents;
pendants, bracelets, veils, 19the pendants, the bracelets, and the scarves;
headdresses, ankle jewelry, sashes, perfume bottles, amulets,20the headdresses, the armlets, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets;
signet rings, nose rings,21the signet rings and nose rings;
festive robes, capes, cloaks, purses, 22the festal robes, the mantles, the cloaks, and the handbags;
garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils. 23the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the veils.
Instead of perfume there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of beautifully styled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothes, sackcloth; instead of beauty, branding. 24Instead of perfume there will be rottenness; and instead of a belt, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a rich robe, a skirt of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty.
Your men will fall by the sword, your warriors in battle. 25Your men shall fall by the sword and your mighty men in battle.
Then her gates will lament and mourn; deserted, she will sit on the ground. 26And her gates shall lament and mourn; empty, she shall sit on the ground.
