Deuteronomy 6
ESV Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionKing James Bible
“Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the LORD your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it,1Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
that you may fear the LORD your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.2That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.4Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
“And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build,10And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full,11And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
then take care lest you forget the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.12Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
It is the LORD your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve and by his name you shall swear.13Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are around you—14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
for the LORD your God in your midst is a jealous God—lest the anger of the LORD your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.15(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
“You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah.16Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
You shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded you.17Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may go well with you, and that you may go in and take possession of the good land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers18And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
by thrusting out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has promised.19To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.
“When your son asks you in time to come, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies and the statutes and the rules that the LORD our God has commanded you?’20And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. And the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.21Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, against Egypt and against Pharaoh and all his household, before our eyes.22And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
And he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in and give us the land that he swore to give to our fathers.23And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are this day.24And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.
And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.’25And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
