Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
God, you have rejected us; you have broken us down; you have been angry. Restore us!1For the music director; according to the shushan-eduth style; a prayer of David written to instruct others. It was written when he fought against Aram Naharaim and Aram-Zobah. That was when Joab turned back and struck down 12,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. O God, you have rejected us. You suddenly turned on us in your anger. Please restore us!
You have shaken the land and split it open. Heal its fissures, for it shudders.2You made the earth quake; you split it open. Repair its breaches, for it is ready to fall.
You have made your people suffer hardship; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger.3You have made your people experience hard times; you have made us drink intoxicating wine.
You have given a signal flag to those who fear you, so that they can flee before the archers. Selah4You have given your loyal followers a rallying flag, so that they might seek safety from the bow. (Selah)
Save with your right hand, and answer me, so that those you love may be rescued.5Deliver by your power and answer me, so that the ones you love may be safe.
God has spoken in his sanctuary: "I will celebrate! I will divide up Shechem. I will apportion the Valley of Succoth.6God has spoken in his sanctuary: "I will triumph! I will parcel out Shechem; the Valley of Succoth I will measure off.
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter.7Gilead belongs to me, as does Manasseh! Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my royal scepter.
Moab is my washbasin. I throw my sandal on Edom; I shout in triumph over Philistia."8Moab is my washbasin. I will make Edom serve me. I will shout in triumph over Philistia."
Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?9Who will lead me into the fortified city? Who will bring me to Edom?
God, haven't you rejected us? God, you do not march out with our armies.10Have you not rejected us, O God? O God, you do not go into battle with our armies.
Give us aid against the foe, for human help is worthless.11Give us help against the enemy, for any help men might offer is futile.
With God we will perform valiantly; he will trample our foes.12By God's power we will conquer; he will trample down our enemies.
