Once again Jesus entered the synagogue, and a man with a withered hand was there.1Then Jesus entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.
In order to accuse Jesus, they were watching to see if He would heal on the Sabbath.2They watched Jesus closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they could accuse him.
Then Jesus said to the man with the withered hand, “Stand up among us.”3So he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Stand up among all these people."
And He asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” But they were silent.4Then he said to them, "Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil, to save a life or destroy it?" But they were silent.
Jesus looked around at them with anger and sorrow at their hardness of heart. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and it was restored.5After looking around at them in anger, grieved by the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
At this, the Pharisees went out and began plotting with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.6So the Pharisees went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians, as to how they could assassinate him.
So Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea, accompanied by a large crowd from Galilee, Judea,7Then Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed him. And from Judea,
Jerusalem, Idumea, the region beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him when they heard what great things He was doing.8Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan River, and around Tyre and Sidon a great multitude came to him when they heard about the things he had done.
Jesus asked His disciples to have a boat ready for Him so that the crowd would not crush Him.9Because of the crowd, he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him so the crowd would not press toward him.
For He had healed so many that all who had diseases were pressing forward to touch Him.10For he had healed many, so that all who were afflicted with diseases pressed toward him in order to touch him.
And when the unclean spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, “You are the Son of God!”11And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."
But He warned them sternly not to make Him known.12But he sternly ordered them not to make him known.
Then Jesus went up on the mountain and called for those He wanted, and they came to Him.13Now Jesus went up the mountain and called for those he wanted, and they came to him.
He appointed twelve of them, whom He designated as apostles, to accompany Him, to be sent out to preach,14He appointed twelve (whom he named apostles), so that they would be with him and he could send them to preach
and to have authority to drive out demons.15and to have authority to cast out demons.
These are the twelve He appointed: Simon (whom He named Peter),16He appointed twelve: To Simon he gave the name Peter;
James son of Zebedee and his brother John (whom He named Boanerges, meaning “Sons of Thunder”),17to James and his brother John, the sons of Zebedee, he gave the name Boanerges (that is, "sons of thunder");
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,18and Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot,
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.19and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Then Jesus went home, and once again a crowd gathered, so that He and His disciples could not even eat.20Now Jesus went home, and a crowd gathered so that they were not able to eat.
When His family heard about this, they went out to take custody of Him, saying, “He is out of His mind.”21When his family heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."
And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and, “By the prince of the demons He drives out demons.”22The experts in the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and, "By the ruler of demons he casts out demons."
So Jesus called them together and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan?23So he called them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan cast out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, it cannot stand.24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom will not be able to stand.
If a house is divided against itself, it cannot stand.25If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
And if Satan is divided and rises against himself, he cannot stand; his end has come.26And if Satan rises against himself and is divided, he is not able to stand and his end has come.
Indeed, no one can enter a strong man’s house to steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.27But no one is able to enter a strong man's house and steal his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can thoroughly plunder his house.
Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter.28I tell you the truth, people will be forgiven for all sins, even all the blasphemies they utter.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.”29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin"
Jesus made this statement because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”30(because they said, "He has an unclean spirit").
Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came and stood outside. They sent someone in to summon Him,31Then Jesus' mother and his brothers came. Standing outside, they sent word to him, to summon him.
and a crowd was sitting around Him. “Look,” He was told, “Your mother and brothers are outside, asking for You.”32A crowd was sitting around him and they said to him, "Look, your mother and your brothers are outside looking for you."
But Jesus replied, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”33He answered them and said, "Who are my mother and my brothers?"
Looking at those seated in a circle around Him, He said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!34And looking at those who were sitting around him in a circle, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!
For whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother.”35For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."
