Then Joseph directed the physicians in his service to embalm his father Israel. So the physicians embalmed him,2And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel.2Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel.2And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.2He commanded his servants who were physicians to embalm his father. So they embalmed Israel.
taking a full forty days, for that was the time required for embalming. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.3Forty days were required for it, for that is how many are required for embalming. And the Egyptians wept for him seventy days.3Now forty days were required for it, for such is the period required for embalming. And the Egyptians wept for him seventy days.3And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.3They took 40 days to complete this, for embalming takes that long, and the Egyptians mourned for him 70 days.
When the days of mourning had passed, Joseph said to Pharaoh's court, "If I have found favor in your eyes, speak to Pharaoh for me. Tell him,4And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,4When the days of mourning for him were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, "If now I have found favor in your sight, please speak to Pharaoh, saying,4And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,4When the days of mourning were over, Joseph said to Pharaoh's household, "If I have found favor with you, please tell Pharaoh that

My father made me swear an oath and said, "I am about to die; bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan." Now let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.'"5‘My father made me swear, saying, “I am about to die: in my tomb that I hewed out for myself in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me.” Now therefore, let me please go up and bury my father. Then I will return.’”5'My father made me swear, saying, "Behold, I am about to die; in my grave which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me." Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.'"5My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.5my father made me take an oath, saying, 'I am about to die. You must bury me there in the tomb that I made for myself in the land of Canaan.' Now let me go and bury my father. Then I will return."
Pharaoh said, "Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear to do."6And Pharaoh answered, “Go up, and bury your father, as he made you swear.”6Pharaoh said, "Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear."6And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.6So Pharaoh said, "Go and bury your father in keeping with your oath."
So Joseph went up to bury his father. All Pharaoh's officials accompanied him--the dignitaries of his court and all the dignitaries of Egypt--7So Joseph went up to bury his father. With him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,7So Joseph went up to bury his father, and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his household and all the elders of the land of Egypt,7And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,7Then Joseph went to bury his father, and all Pharaoh's servants, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt went with him,

When they reached the threshing floor of Atad, near the Jordan, they lamented loudly and bitterly; and there Joseph observed a seven-day period of mourning for his father.10When they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, they lamented there with a very great and grievous lamentation, and he made a mourning for his father seven days.10When they came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, they lamented there with a very great and sorrowful lamentation; and he observed seven days mourning for his father.10And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.10When they reached the threshing floor of Atad, which is across the Jordan, they lamented and wept loudly, and Joseph mourned seven days for his father.
When the Canaanites who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, "The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning." That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.11When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning on the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning by the Egyptians.” Therefore the place was named Abel-mizraim; it is beyond the Jordan.11Now when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, "This is a grievous mourning for the Egyptians." Therefore it was named Abel-mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.11And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.11When the Canaanite inhabitants of the land saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, "This is a solemn mourning on the part of the Egyptians." Therefore the place is named Abel-mizraim. It is across the Jordan.
So Jacob's sons did as he had commanded them:12Thus his sons did for him as he had commanded them,12Thus his sons did for him as he had charged them;12And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:12So Jacob's sons did for him what he had commanded them.
They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre, which Abraham had bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.13for his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field at Machpelah, to the east of Mamre, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place.13for his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre, which Abraham had bought along with the field for a burial site from Ephron the Hittite.13For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.13They carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave at Machpelah in the field near Mamre, which Abraham had purchased as a burial site from Ephron the Hittite.
After burying his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, together with his brothers and all the others who had gone with him to bury his father.14After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone up with him to bury his father.14After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers, and all who had gone up with him to bury his father.14And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.14After Joseph buried his father, he returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone with him to bury his father.

Joseph Comforts his Brothers

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, "What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?"15When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him.”15When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, "What if Joseph bears a grudge against us and pays us back in full for all the wrong which we did to him!"15And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.15When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said to one another, "If Joseph is holding a grudge against us, he will certainly repay us for all the suffering we caused him."
So they sent word to Joseph, saying, "Your father left these instructions before he died:16So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave this command before he died:16So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, "Your father charged before he died, saying,16And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,16So they sent this message to Joseph, "Before he died your father gave a command:
This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.' Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father." When their message came to him, Joseph wept.17‘Say to Joseph, “Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.17'Thus you shall say to Joseph, "Please forgive, I beg you, the transgression of your brothers and their sin, for they did you wrong."' And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father." And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.17So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.17Say this to Joseph: Please forgive your brothers' transgression and their sin--the suffering they caused you.' Therefore, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father." Joseph wept when their message came to him.
His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. "We are your slaves," they said.18His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, “Behold, we are your servants.”18Then his brothers also came and fell down before him and said, "Behold, we are your servants."18And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.18Then his brothers also came to him, bowed down before him, and said, "We are your slaves!"

But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God?19But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God?19But Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, for am I in God's place?19And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?19But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God?
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.20"As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.20But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.20You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result--the survival of many people.
So then, don't be afraid. I will provide for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.21So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.21"So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones." So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.21Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.21Therefore don't be afraid. I will take care of you and your little ones." And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

The Death of Joseph

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Joseph stayed in Egypt, along with all his father's family. He lived a hundred and ten years22So Joseph remained in Egypt, he and his father’s house. Joseph lived 110 years.22Now Joseph stayed in Egypt, he and his father's household, and Joseph lived one hundred and ten years.22And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.22Joseph and his father's household remained in Egypt. Joseph lived 110 years.
and saw the third generation of Ephraim's children. Also the children of Makir son of Manasseh were placed at birth on Joseph's knees.23And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were counted as Joseph’s own.23Joseph saw the third generation of Ephraim's sons; also the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph's knees.23And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.23He saw Ephraim's sons to the third generation; the sons of Manasseh's son Machir were recognized by Joseph.
Then Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."24And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”24Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob."24And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.24Joseph said to his brothers, "I am about to die, but God will certainly come to your aid and bring you up from this land to the land He promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, "God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place."25Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”25Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely take care of you, and you shall carry my bones up from here."25And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.25So Joseph made the sons of Israel take an oath: "When God comes to your aid, you are to carry my bones up from here."
So Joseph died at the age of a hundred and ten. And after they embalmed him, he was placed in a coffin in Egypt.26So Joseph died, being 110 years old. They embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.26So Joseph died at the age of one hundred and ten years; and he was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt.26So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.26Joseph died at the age of 110. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt.
