Judging Others 1“ Do not judge, that you⁺ may not be judged. 2For in what judgment you⁺ judge, you⁺ will be judged; and in what measure you⁺ measure, it will be measured† to you⁺. 3And why do you look at the splinter that is in the eye of your brother, but not notice the beam in your own eye? 4Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Permit that I might cast out the splinter from your eye,’ and behold, the beam is in your eye? 5Hypocrite! First cast out the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the splinter from the eye of your brother. 6Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor cast your⁺ pearls before the pigs, lest they will trample them among their feet and, having turned, tear you⁺ to pieces. Ask, Seek, Knock 7Ask, and it will be given to you⁺; seek, and you⁺ will find; knock, and it will be opened to you⁺. 8For everyone asking receives; and the one seeking finds; and to the one knocking, it will be opened. 9Or which man is of you⁺ who, if his son will ask for bread, will give to him a stone, 10or† also, if he will ask for a fish, will give to him a serpent? 11Therefore if you⁺, being evil, know to give good gifts to your⁺ children, how much more will your⁺ Father who is in the heavens give good things to those asking Him! 12All things, therefore, as many as you⁺ may want that men may do to you⁺, so also you⁺ do to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. The Narrow Gate 13Enter through the narrow gate, because wide is the gate and broad the way† that is leading to destruction, and many are those entering through it. 14For narrow is the gate and compressed the way that is leading to life, and few are those finding it. A Tree and Its Fruit 15Beware of the false prophets, who come to you⁺ in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16From their fruits you⁺ will recognize them. Do they gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17Thus every good tree produces good fruits, but the rotten tree produces evil fruits. 18A good tree is not able to produce evil fruits, nor a rotten tree to produce good fruits. 19Every tree† not producing good fruit is cut down and is thrown into fire. 20Therefore from their fruits you⁺ will recognize them. 21Not everyone who is saying to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of My Father who is in the heavens. 22Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many miracles?’ 23And then I will profess to them, ‘I never knew you⁺; depart from Me, you working lawlessness!’ The House on the Rock 24Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be likened to† a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain came down, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26And everyone who is hearing these words of Mine and not doing them will be likened to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27And the rain came down, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell—and its fall was great!” The Authority of Jesus 28And it came to pass when Jesus finished these words that the crowds were astonished at His teaching. 29For He was teaching them as One having authority, and not as their scribes.†
