The Restoration of Jerusalem
(Micah 4:6–13)

1  וַיְהִ֛י (And came) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts); קִנֵּ֥אתִי (I am jealous) לְצִיּ֖וֹן (for Zion) קִנְאָ֣ה (with jealousy), גְדוֹלָ֑ה (great) וְחֵמָ֥ה (and with rage). גְדוֹלָ֖ה (Great) קִנֵּ֥אתִי (am I jealous) לָֽהּ׃ (for her).

3  כֹּ֚ה (Thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH); שַׁ֚בְתִּי (I will return) אֶל־ (to) צִיּ֔וֹן (Zion), וְשָׁכַנְתִּ֖י (and I will dwell) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the midst) יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (of Jerusalem). וְנִקְרְאָ֤ה (And will be called) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ (Jerusalem) עִ֣יר־ (the City) הָֽאֱמֶ֔ת (of Truth); וְהַר־ (and the mountain) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) הַ֥ר (the Mountain) הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ס (of Holiness).

4  כֹּ֤ה (Thus) אָמַר֙ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts); עֹ֤ד (Again) יֵֽשְׁבוּ֙ (will sit) זְקֵנִ֣ים (old men) וּזְקֵנ֔וֹת (and old women) בִּרְחֹב֖וֹת (in the streets) יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (of Jerusalem), וְאִ֧ישׁ (and each man) מִשְׁעַנְתּ֛וֹ (with his staff) בְּיָד֖וֹ (in his hand) מֵרֹ֥ב (from an abundance) יָמִֽים׃ (of days). 5  וּרְחֹב֤וֹת (And the streets) הָעִיר֙ (of the city) יִמָּ֣לְא֔וּ (will be full of) יְלָדִ֖ים (boys) וִֽילָד֑וֹת (and girls) מְשַׂחֲקִ֖ים (playing) בִּרְחֹֽבֹתֶֽיהָ׃ס (in its streets).

6  כֹּ֤ה (Thus) אָמַר֙ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts); כִּ֣י (If) יִפָּלֵ֗א (it is marvelous) בְּעֵינֵי֙ (in the eyes) שְׁאֵרִית֙ (of the remnant) הָעָ֣ם (of the people) הַזֶּ֔ה (this) בַּיָּמִ֖ים (in the days), הָהֵ֑ם (these) גַּם־ (also) בְּעֵינַי֙ (in My eyes)? יִפָּלֵ֔א (Will it be marvelous) נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָאֽוֹת׃פ (Hosts).

7  כֹּ֤ה (Thus) אָמַר֙ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֔וֹת (Hosts); הִנְנִ֥י (Behold, I) מוֹשִׁ֛יעַ (am going to save) אֶת־ (-) עַמִּ֖י (My people) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land), מִזְרָ֑ח (of the sunrise) וּמֵאֶ֖רֶץ (and from the land); מְב֥וֹא (of the going in) הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ (of the sun). 8  וְהֵבֵאתִ֣י (And I will bring in) אֹתָ֔ם (them) וְשָׁכְנ֖וּ (and they will dwell) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the midst) יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (of Jerusalem); וְהָיוּ־ (and they will be) לִ֣י (My) לְעָ֗ם (people), וַֽאֲנִי֙ (and I) אֶהְיֶ֤ה (will be) לָהֶם֙ (their) לֵֽאלֹהִ֔ים (God), בֶּאֱמֶ֖ת (in truth) וּבִצְדָקָֽה׃ס (and in righteousness).

9  כֹּֽה־ (Thus) אָמַר֮ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֒ (Hosts); תֶּחֱזַ֣קְנָה (Let be strong), יְדֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ hands) הַשֹּֽׁמְעִים֙ (hearing) בַּיָּמִ֣ים (in the days) הָאֵ֔לֶּה (these) אֵ֖ת (-) הַדְּבָרִ֣ים (the words) הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these) מִפִּי֙ (by the mouth) הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים (of the prophets), אֲ֠שֶׁר (who spoke) בְּי֞וֹם (in the day that) יֻסַּ֨ד (was founded), בֵּית־ (the house) יְהוָ֧ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֛וֹת (Hosts) הַהֵיכָ֖ל (the temple) לְהִבָּנֽוֹת׃ (to build). 10  כִּ֗י (For) לִפְנֵי֙ (before) הַיָּמִ֣ים (the days) הָהֵ֔ם (those) שְׂכַ֤ר (a wage) הָֽאָדָם֙ (for man), לֹ֣א (not) נִֽהְיָ֔ה (there was) וּשְׂכַ֥ר (or a wage) הַבְּהֵמָ֖ה (for beast); אֵינֶ֑נָּה (not) וְלַיּוֹצֵ֨א (one was going forth) וְלַבָּ֤א (and one coming in) אֵין־ (nor) שָׁלוֹם֙ (peace) מִן־ (from) הַצָּ֔ר (the enemy), וַאֲשַׁלַּ֥ח (and I sent) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הָאָדָ֖ם (mankind) אִ֥ישׁ (each man) בְּרֵעֵֽהוּ׃ (against his neighbor). 11  וְעַתָּ֗ה (And now) לֹ֣א (not) כַיָּמִ֤ים (days), הָרִֽאשֹׁנִים֙ (as in the former) אֲנִ֔י (am I) לִשְׁאֵרִ֖ית (to the remnant) הָעָ֣ם (people) הַזֶּ֑ה (of this) נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָאֽוֹת׃ (Hosts).

12  כִּֽי־ (Because of) זֶ֣רַע (the sowing) הַשָּׁל֗וֹם (of peace); הַגֶּ֜פֶן (the vine) תִּתֵּ֤ן (will give) פִּרְיָהּ֙ (her fruit), וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (and the ground) תִּתֵּ֣ן (will give) אֶת־ (-) יְבוּלָ֔הּ (her increase), וְהַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (and the heavens) יִתְּנ֣וּ (will give) טַלָּ֑ם (their dew); וְהִנְחַלְתִּ֗י (and I will give as an inheritance) אֶת־ (-) שְׁאֵרִ֛ית (to the remnant) הָעָ֥ם (of the people) הַזֶּ֖ה (this) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) אֵֽלֶּה׃ (these things). 13  וְהָיָ֡ה (And it will come to pass), כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ (that as) הֱיִיתֶ֨ם (you⁺ were) קְלָלָ֜ה (a curse) בַּגּוֹיִ֗ם (among the nations), בֵּ֤ית (O house) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah), וּבֵ֣ית (and house) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel); כֵּ֚ן (so) אוֹשִׁ֣יעַ (I will save) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺) וִהְיִיתֶ֖ם (and you⁺ will be) בְּרָכָ֑ה (a blessing). אַל־ (Do not), תִּירָ֖אוּ (be afraid) תֶּחֱזַ֥קְנָה (let be strong) יְדֵיכֶֽם׃ס (your⁺ hands).

14  כִּ֣י (For) כֹ֣ה (thus) אָמַר֮ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֒ (Hosts); כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (As) זָמַמְ֜תִּי (I purposed) לְהָרַ֣ע (to bring disaster) לָכֶ֗ם (upon you⁺) בְּהַקְצִ֤יף (when provoked to wrath) אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ (your⁺ fathers) אֹתִ֔י (Me) אָמַ֖ר (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (Hosts), וְלֹ֖א (and not); נִחָֽמְתִּי׃ (I would relent). 15  כֵּ֣ן (So) שַׁ֤בְתִּי (again) זָמַ֙מְתִּי֙ (I have purposed) בַּיָּמִ֣ים (in the days) הָאֵ֔לֶּה (these) לְהֵיטִ֥יב (to do good) אֶת־ (-) יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (to Jerusalem) וְאֶת־ (and) בֵּ֣ית (to the house) יְהוּדָ֑ה (of Judah) אַל־ (do not) תִּירָֽאוּ׃ (fear). 16  אֵ֥לֶּה (These are) הַדְּבָרִ֖ים (the things) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תַּֽעֲשׂ֑וּ (you⁺ will do); דַּבְּר֤וּ (Speak) אֱמֶת֙ (the truth) אִ֣ישׁ (every man) אֶת־ (with) רֵעֵ֔הוּ (his neighbor); אֱמֶת֙ (in truth) וּמִשְׁפַּ֣ט (and judgment) שָׁל֔וֹם (of peace) שִׁפְט֖וּ (render judgment) בְּשַׁעֲרֵיכֶֽם׃ (in your⁺ gates). 17  וְאִ֣ישׁ׀ (And each man) אֶת־ (-) רָעַ֣ת (evil) רֵעֵ֗הוּ (against a neighbor); אַֽל־ (not) תַּחְשְׁבוּ֙ (shall you⁺ devise) בִּלְבַבְכֶ֔ם (in your⁺ heart) וּשְׁבֻ֥עַת (and an oath); שֶׁ֖קֶר (of deception) אַֽל־ (not) תֶּאֱהָ֑בוּ (shall you⁺ love) כִּ֧י (for) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) אֵ֛לֶּה (these are) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that which) שָׂנֵ֖אתִי (I hate), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

18  וַיְהִ֛י (And came) דְּבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 19  כֹּֽה־ (Thus) אָמַ֞ר (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֗וֹת (Hosts); צ֣וֹם (The fast) הָרְבִיעִ֡י (of the fourth month) וְצ֣וֹם (and the fast) הַחֲמִישִׁי֩ (of the fifth), וְצ֨וֹם (and the fast) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֜י (of the seventh), וְצ֣וֹם (and the fast) הָעֲשִׂירִ֗י (of the tenth), יִהְיֶ֤ה (will be) לְבֵית־ (for the house) יְהוּדָה֙ (of Judah) לְשָׂשׂ֣וֹן (for joy) וּלְשִׂמְחָ֔ה (and for gladness), וּֽלְמֹעֲדִ֖ים (and for appointed times); טוֹבִ֑ים (good) וְהָאֱמֶ֥ת (and the truth) וְהַשָּׁל֖וֹם (and the peace) אֱהָֽבוּ׃פ (you⁺ shall love).

20  כֹּ֥ה (Thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (Hosts); עֹ֚ד (Yet) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יָבֹ֣אוּ (will come) עַמִּ֔ים (peoples), וְיֹשְׁבֵ֖י (and dwellers) עָרִ֥ים (of cities) רַבּֽוֹת׃ (many). 21  וְֽהָלְכ֡וּ (And will go) יֹשְׁבֵי֩ (the dwellers) אַחַ֨ת (of one city) אֶל־ (to) אַחַ֜ת (another one), לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), נֵלְכָ֤ה (Going) הָלוֹךְ֙ (let us go) לְחַלּוֹת֙ (to ask for favor) אֶת־ (-) פְּנֵ֣י (before the face) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וּלְבַקֵּ֖שׁ (and to seek) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֑וֹת (Hosts); אֵלְכָ֖ה (I will go) גַּם־ (even) אָֽנִי׃ (I). 22  וּבָ֨אוּ (And will come) עַמִּ֤ים (peoples) רַבִּים֙ (many) וְגוֹיִ֣ם (and nations) עֲצוּמִ֔ים (strong) לְבַקֵּ֛שׁ (to seek) אֶת־ (-) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem), וּלְחַלּ֖וֹת (and to ask for favor) אֶת־ (-) פְּנֵ֥י (before the face) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

23  כֹּ֥ה (Thus) אָמַר֮ (says) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֒ (Hosts); בַּיָּמִ֣ים (In the days) הָהֵ֔מָּה (those) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) יַחֲזִ֙יקוּ֙ (will take hold) עֲשָׂרָ֣ה (ten) אֲנָשִׁ֔ים (men) מִכֹּ֖ל (from every) לְשֹׁנ֣וֹת (language) הַגּוֹיִ֑ם (of the nations), וְֽהֶחֱזִ֡יקוּ (and will take hold) בִּכְנַף֩ (on the sleeve) אִ֨ישׁ (of a man) יְהוּדִ֜י (a Jew), לֵאמֹ֗ר (saying), נֵֽלְכָה֙ (Let us go) עִמָּכֶ֔ם (with you⁺) כִּ֥י (for) שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ (we have heard) אֱלֹהִ֥ים (that God is) עִמָּכֶֽם׃ס (with you⁺).
