A SONG. A PSALM OF ASAPH. O God, let there be no silence to You, || Do not be silent, nor be quiet, O God. O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! A song. A psalm of Asaph. O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear, do not stand aloof, O God.
For behold, Your enemies roar, || And those hating You have lifted up the head, For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads. See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.
They take crafty counsel against Your people, || And consult against Your hidden ones. They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish.
They have said, “Come, and we cut them off from [being] a nation, || And the name of Israel is not remembered anymore.” They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!” “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
For they consulted in heart together, || They make a covenant against You, For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant— With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—
Tents of Edom, and Ishmaelites, Moab, and the Hagarenes, the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites,
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with inhabitants of Tyre, Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Asshur is also joined with them, || They have been an arm to sons of Lot. Selah. Asshur also has joined them; they are the strong arm of the children of Lot. Selah Even Assyria has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants.
Do to them as Midian, || As Sisera, as Jabin, at the Brook of Kishon. Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon, Do to them as you did to Midian, as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
They were destroyed at Endor, || They were dung for the ground! who were destroyed at En-dor, who became dung for the ground. who perished at Endor and became like dung on the ground.
Make their nobles as Oreb and as Zeeb, || And as Zebah and Zalmunna—all their princes, Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna, Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
Who have said, “Let us occupy the pastures of God for ourselves.” who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves of the pastures of God.” who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”
O my God, make them as a rolling thing, || As stubble before wind. O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind. Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind.
As a fire burns a forest, || And as a flame sets hills on fire, As fire consumes the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze, As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
So You pursue them with Your whirlwind, || And trouble them with Your windstorm. so may you pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your hurricane! so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.
Fill their faces [with] shame, || And they seek Your Name, O YHWH. Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O LORD. Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name.
They are ashamed and troubled forever, || Indeed, they are confounded and lost. Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace.
And they know that You—Your Name [is] YHWH—By Yourself [are] the Most High over all the earth! that they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD, are the Most High over all the earth. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
