1 TO THE OVERSEER. ON THE GITTITH. A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH. How beloved Your dwelling places, YHWH of Hosts! How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! For the director of music. According to gittith. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty!
2 My soul desired, indeed, it has also been consumed, || For the courts of YHWH, || My heart and my flesh cry aloud to the living God, My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
3 Even a sparrow has found a house, || And a swallow a nest for herself, || Where she has placed her brood—Your altars, O YHWH of Hosts, || My king and my God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young— a place near your altar, LORD Almighty, my King and my God.
4 O the blessedness of those inhabiting Your house, || Yet they praise You. Selah. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.
5 O the blessedness of a man whose strength is in You, || Highways [are] in their heart. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 Those passing through a valley of weeping make it a spring, || The early rain covers it with pools. As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength, || He appears to God in Zion. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.
8 O YHWH, God of Hosts, hear my prayer, || Give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah Hear my prayer, LORD God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Our shield, see, O God, || And behold the face of Your anointed, Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed! Look on our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one.
10 For a day in Your courts [is] good, O Teacher! I have chosen rather to be at the threshold, || In the house of my God, || Than to dwell in tents of wickedness. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For YHWH God [is] a sun and a shield, || YHWH gives grace and glory. He does not withhold good || To those walking in uprightness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
12 YHWH of Hosts! O the blessedness of a man trusting in You. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! LORD Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
